Need some help with my pump

I just got my pump from picturebrite and I have been having problems getting it to hold pressure. Has anyone run into this problem before? I checked if the pump was working properly and it is, I think the problem is where the tube meets the cylinder head. This is my first pump and I was very excited with how fast it got here and getting to use it, but got a little disappointed with how it’s not holding pressure. Any help would be extremely appreciated guys, Thanks in advance.

Does your outfit have a snap in fitting on the top of the tube?

It has a fitting that looks like it should snap in place, but it keeps popping out of place

You may need to press it in more firmly to get it to snap into place.

If the male fitting is popping out of the female fitting and using more pressure to push it in to make it snap into place doesn’t work, you may have to file or sand a little material off of the male fitting flange so that the O-ring penetrates into the female fitting just a little bit more.

It doesn’t take much. If you can file off 1/32” from the surface of the male fitting flange, that should be all it takes.

If this doesn’t make sense, let me know and I will try to attach a diagram showing where to remove material. But it should be obvious where to take the material from in order to make the O-ring on the male fitting go just a little deeper into the female fitting.

Hey Itsabouttime, I just got mine today also. I love it. I had the same problem as you. It seems like the male connector doesnt want to stay in. And then there is that metal push button I have no clue what it does. Other than the lack of directions, this piece is nice. Make sure you push down kinda snug on the hose. Dont break it. And then the female connector screws into the tube a little bit and with suction, you will have no problem. Hope this helps. Later

Differential Diagnosis for Vacuum Leaks

This is a differential diagnosis if it still isn’t holding vacuum.

I did a little research and it looks like with enough shaving down I might be able to get a seal. I have shaved it down some but I guess it just needs a little bit more. It came to my attention that there is a little black ring where the male piece goes down into the female piece and doesn’t go all the way around. It seems to me like it might have been a little bit damaged when I got it. I have no idea where to find those little rubber circles. I think that might be another reason why the seal isn’t working. Do you know if they sell extra parts or will send me one since mine doesn’t work?

Ask them. Don’t they have a support service or such?

OK, that explains everything. Those black rings are called O-rings (pronounced oh-ring). Take your male connector to Ace Hardware and you should be able to find a replacement O-ring for about 25 cents. The size you need is 5/16” X 3/16” X 1/16”.

Once you get the new O-ring, your problem will be solved.

Keep that O-ring lubricated.

Yeah, mine looked at though it broke also. But it is making a seal for now. I will probably pick a few of those O-rings up sometime. As soon as I pushed it down it looked like the female connector opening shaved the black O-ring. I was like “What the fuck?” After messing with it, I got it to seal.

I got a response today from the site, and they didn’t even know that the customer service wasn’t working properly. So now I guess it works. But the guy that I was talking to said,
“They will either send you a new ring or pump, I am not sure which, but they will ship it out on Monday when they reopen.

The computer error has been forwarded to our IT section and we appreciate your bringing that to our attention.”

So I don’t know whether to wait for the new stuff to come in the mail or to go to the hardware store and just replace it that way, I am really trying to use this thing. What is the best way to keep it lubricated?

Other than the problem I have ran into so far is this a pretty good pump to use?

If you have a hardware store nearby, it would be nice to verify if they stock O-rings and if so, just buy it. I know my Ace Hardware does.

I lube mine by just giving it a quick suck in my mouth.

Which pump did you buy? I hope you bought the metal pump with red handles and gauge. If not, that is the pump you really want.
