No more weights for me.

I have been thinking about a dynamic weight or tension system to be able to adjust how much pull I’m getting throughout my hanging sets. Some times I could reach fatigue. Some times I’d need more weight. Then sometimes, when I apply my weights for my first set of the day, it was almost too much. I had a couple different ideas and finally I realized what I wanted was a system like a sailboat uses for adjusting its sails.

On a boat, you are constantly adjusting the sails in and out to match wind and course changes with lines through pulleys and locking them down with cleats. So I went down to my boat and grabbed the “boom vang” system I installed last year. A “Main sheet” system or even any cleat system would work. Basically a line/rope runs from the hanger attachment through the pulley and back to a place to tie it off or cleat it down.

So far after 4 sets, I love it. I can create the perfect tension at all times without stopping a set to remove weight as I fatigue. And if I feel I can handle more, I just pull the line a little tighter. Next I plan on adding a digital fish scale in the system so I can see how much “weight” I’m applying.

Sail on brother. Sounds like a fine idea.

tps,

All I can say is, holly shit, what a set up.

Bigger

That is just an great idea man! Your set-up seems pretty comfortable. If I had the privacy I would make a similar setup. Damn, it sucks hiding in my room hanging while the folks wonder what the hell I`m doing all the time.

Great idea, good luck with it. Of course now Thunder needs to add a Sailing Forum. Hoist that mast matey!

Sweet looking rig man!

tps,

Nice, very nice.

I have often wondered if you really need to add a scale. If you were using something where is was hard to control the force, then yeah .You obviously know what you are “feeling” and know what you need to do, so other than to satisfy your own curiosity, you probably don’t need it.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Nice to get feedback. It has been a week with my new setup and I LOVE it.

Andrew, I agree with you on not really needing a scale. I haven’t had a chance to get one yet and I’ve been having great sessions without it. Weight numbers can be a bad thing. Often I read others almost bragging about how much weight they hang and I worry that a newbie could read that and hurt themselves. It’s not a competition. The less weight with results is what is best. However, I have noticed that I need to apply more tension as my set goes. I would like something to verify if I can handle more weight as I go or what is more likely, as things stretch out, I need to take up the slack so to speak. It is also a strange phenomenon to have nearly unlimited pulling power at my hands and a scale sitting there staring me in the face may keep me from getting carried away ;)

Exactly.

tps,

I am so impressed by your set up, I think I’m going to copy it.

I guess that means you need to name it!!

Naw. :) I just used what I had at hand which I bought here I have the small version. The mini would work fine, but it’s still $80. For about $20, could simply use a cam cleat here with a strap like this to keep the line in place. Or even simpler, but harder to adjust, use a $9 jam cleat like this . Then, there’s always ebay or a scrap yard.

The pulleys are simply $2.50 hardware store items. Not sure how that translates to Australian money though;)

Nice job bro :)

Interesting but it be would helpful if you could post additional photos with the apparatus in use with weight attached.

It is difficult to conceptualize how it works with the limited information you provide.

wanagebig, the concept is there is no weight attached. If you recognize the Bib hanger with the blue strap, that of course is where my dick goes. The other end is a system that replaces the weights. The rope attached to the hanger goes through a clamping cleat that holds tension on the system/dick. I had a couple times where the weights shifted or got hung up and then let loose giving my dick a sudden jerk which could be very dangerous. Also I can make very small increases or decrease to tension constantly as needed.

Here is a close-up photo of where the rope goes through the clamping cleat to help see that better.

Note: To any sailors out there, yes, I am having a tough time writing rope all the time ;)
