Ice cool down

I remember reading somewhere that stretching the stuff that the tunica is made of is best achieved by a heated stretch followed by rapid cooling in the same stretched position. It works for ligaments as well.

At the end of my jelqing session, I’ve started doing a squeeze (manual tornique at the base keeping the tunica streched/pumped to its limit without over pressure) under an IR lamp for a warm down (5 min) followed immediately by a gel ice pack while in the same sqeeze for about a minute. Could be good for clampers as well, but I’m not there yet.

No measurable growth yet, but I’m getting great PI’s. Just doing 100 five second jelqs and some streching in a seperate session (and kagels of course). Thinking about upping my jelqs to 125.

Any comments?

Not many people do warm downs, well there are those who consider letting it cool to room temperature is good enough.

It’s exactly what I used to do when I PE’d. It works well.

During the recent blizzards I was out shoveling after a PE session and my unit was really hot and somewhat sore, so I actually wrapped a snowball around it!!! Felt great. Not exactly on topic, but a funny story nonetheless.

I always thought it was a good idea to use heat rather than cold to help ease yourself out of an intense PE session. Perhaps I’m wrong?

Yeah accordening to scientific studies cooling tissue while its been stretched for some time helps for enlongation and CREEP to remain perminant after the stretch force has been released. I use to use my cooling fan to cool down the tissues of my penis when I used to do full erect clamping. I may start using a my cooling fan for the last 5 minutes of my hanging sets.

This is why PE’ing is sometimes confusing to newer guys, the more you read the more different the opinions. Some say “do this” while others say “that’s wrong you should do this”.

I have always read that you should do a warm down and this thread seems to imply that a cool down or even an ice down after a session would actually be better.

Has anybody with enough experience trying both methods gotten any substantial gains using one method over the other. I would rather do it right from the start so I don’t want to switch to an icedown if it’s counterproductive.

I know that PE is alot of trial and error but could someone please clear this up.

Geeeez I’ll say it one more time- a cool down is what you should be doing if you want maximum gains. Do a search for cool downs, the scientific literature is all there. Ignoring it is simply foolish.

I’ve always done a cool down; it worked for me;) .

Thanks man-of-10 for your reply. I’m not saying that the cool down doesn’t work for you, but others including alot of veteran PEer’s are claiming that staying warm increases blood flow to the tissue longer.

This is what gprent just said a few days ago on the warm down cool down debate:

“Let’s put it this way. Heat makes things expand. Cold makes things shrink. You decide.”

This is why I said the more you read the more you get confused. I want to do whatever will give the best result for good gains. Any chance you got a link to the scientific literature that you mention above.

I might just stick with the warm down for another month then give the cool down a try for awhile and see if I notice a big difference either way.

Again, I’m not trying to argue your point, I just want to do what actually works without slowing down any possible gains. Thanks

Didn’t Big Girtha talk about using cooldowns in one of his threads? If we look at studies on increasing range of motion in joints then heat/stretching/ice has been proven effective a number of times so it’s probably not a bad idea. It can probably be overdone though and then I’m not sure how the connective tissues react (haven’t seen any hard facts on it).

I’ll be honest, I really couldn’t be bothered to explain (it get’s boring after repeating yourself often:) ). Do as you will (after all, they’re your gains, not mine).
