Serotonin, PE, depression and motivation

I haven’t been here in many months, but thought this was a good place to look for advice.
And I need some opinions.

I’m not feeling right. I don’t think it’s quite depression, though a year+ ago, I did feel it was depression.
My main problem right now is motivation. I just can’t get myself to do anything. What’s worse is I work from home, so if I can’t do anything, I don’t make money. It’s not like I go into a 9-5 and have no choice but to work. I’m at home so I have the option of not doing anything.

I’ve gotten advice for PreE here a long time ago. I tried tramadol, which increases serotonin I believe. And that worked a bit.

Now recently, I’ve been reading up on 5HTP and how that increases serotonin.

I’m in great physical shape, good looking, so I do feel pretty good about my self in that aspect.
But just no motivation. Now if I had PreE, and something like Tramadol worked, which probably means my serotonin levels WERE low.

Will that mean my motivation is probably linked to Depression and low serotonin levels?
I’ve tried L-Tyrosine for concentration and to hopefully motivate me, but it didn’t do anything.
So I bought 5HTP today and am going to try that.

But then I had second thoughts, that maybe I’m not depressed and it’s just something with motivation?
And 5HTP is not what I need.

Any opinions?
Thanks for your time.

Short Term Goal: BPEL 7" | EG 5 3/4" Long Term Goal: BPEL 7 3/4 - 8" | EG 6"

Two pieces of advice I can offer, first: stay away from 5-HTP. Basically… 5-HTP is metabolised into serotonin in your liver, this leads to a body wide increase in serotonin levels, which has been linked directly to increased chances of chronic heart disease (serotonin regulates some aspects of heart valve function)

However if you purchase an amino acid called: L-Tryptophan, (the T in 5-HTP) it is metabolised into 5-HTP in your liver and is subsequently converted to Serotonin in your brain (so you avoid the body wise increase)

Motivation wise: I always find proactive motivation, rather than reactive motivation helps me a lot.

Take body building: I have a fixed idea in my mind of how I want my body to look, so all the while i’m working out I imagine achieving that goal, which is a proactive motivation type. If you were treating that reactively though you’d think: “I’m not doing any body building at the moment, I better had” So when you begin again, you’ve lost your keystone of motivation and you stop, only to repeat the cycle again.

I liked both these books

Between both books, every question is utterly answered. I would at least read the first book before dropping crazy amounts of coin on any supplements. Otherwise you may be buying the wrong shit or in the wrong amounts to work. The book acts as a set of instructions/guidelines.

I was and still continue to be in your same boat. Currently Adderall XR and Clomipramine are what I am on and it has helped. Some. Best of luck though man.

How about trying some herbal remedies such as St John’s Wort Extract and Omega3 fish oil? I’ve no personal experience of these, but a pharmacist friend of mine recommends them (he doesn’t sell them by the way).

Stay away from SSRI’s if you can

Quesitons?

Have you been taking any drugs with opiates? They cause major problems for my brain chemistry. Basically when you take them the brain stops making natural feel good chemicals.

5htp I’m on the fence about. I think it makes me tired / irritable.

To get yourself out of this funk, you need protein and complex carbs. MEAT and POTATOS. If your a vegetarian, your not going to help yourself much. You need protein. Often depression is not a chemical imbalance, but a nutrient deficiency. This will become more main stream in following years.

Anyhow, here’s my stack when I go into depression. Works everytime to get me out of it

AM
Wakeup 1000mg Tyrosine, 2000mg vitamin c powder (sodium ascorbate), multi-vitamin, 1 tsp maca powder. 1ml St. Johns Wort.
500 - 1000mg L-tryptophan

1 hour later
2 eggs, scrambled usually, don’t overcook them.

mid morning - apple

Lunch, chicken w/ some steamed vegetables

Afternoon, some yogurt and oat meal. I’ll usually make a green shake with lots of vegetables in blender with water and yogurt and oat meal. Disgusting? Yes. Good for you? Yes. Get the good unprocessed unsugared yogurt. Whole yogurt is the best, lowfat is BS.

1 hour later
Same deal as AM. 1000mg Tyrosine, 2000mg vitamin c powder (sodium ascorbate), multi-vitamin, 1 tsp maca powder. 1ml St. Johns Wort.
500 - 1000mg L-tryptophan

Dinner.
More meat and POtato, take 1tsp quality fish oil. I use carlsons.

Do not take this stuff lightly. I think most times folks cause their own depression without realizing it. Myself, it’s from improper attitude and opiate abuse. Depression is bad. Leads to low libido, and all sorts of other symptoms and loss of appetite which leads to more depression.

The IDIOTS will just give you a pill “which will not produce seratonin” but overwork your current seratonin. You need to jump start your brain again with the amino acids I’m talking about, coupled with diet, exercize and sleep in order to fix your brain. Give it a good month and you should be feeling much better. However you should also experience immediate results with what I’m mentioning as well.

Hate to break it to you, but St Johns Wort is also an SSRI. It’s just a naturally occuring one.

Also, the combination of an SSRI like St John’s Wort and other serotonin-raising drugs like 5-HTP could potentially lead to a fatal case of serotonin syndrome. Many of these supplements come with the same risks or more than pharmaceutical equivilents, but without the large research history.

Yes, and not Fluoride based like most of the SSRI’s. They basically slow brain function, rob your soul of life, and leave you feeling beat down and tired with no desire to live and as an added benefit, no depression, as there is no energy left in the brain to feel depressed.

IMO, if you want to feel lifeless, take an SSRI. I’ve been on them all and they are pure rubbish. My opinion, based on my experience of course.

I’ve never had much luck with them as a monotherapy. The combo of a phototherapy box and a low-dose SSRI completely cured my unipolar depression though. No mood swings in 13 months, it’s amazing.

Hmm, what is photo therapy? I have PTSD from my upbringing but I never dwell on it. However, although I’m not depressed I’m a different person every other 1/2 hour. Been that way forever.

It’s daily exposure to artificial sunlight. There are a few studies demonstrating it has beneficial effects on serotonin levels, and multiple studies showing the combo of it and an SSRI is fast-acting and effective in some types of depression. I’ve got a light box I keep on my desk while I work, the only problem is trying to use it when I have a hangover.

pick a poison but know it inside & out or don't bother

Why does it work for some and not others? Magic, miracle, the stupidity of believing it is solely Empirical ingestion (just add more), or the notion of it has to be a bad product?

I always suggest a good physical book to act as a guide. Build out from there FIRST.

Thanks for the responses.
I wonder maybe if it’s bipolar, as I do have some moodswings rather than constant depression.

I tried Tyrosine at 3g and didn’t feel anything.
I’ve been experimenting with 5htp a bit, and I seem to feel ‘fine’ on it. But really not far off my daily feelings, so I again question if I have depression.

I do, and have regularly taken about 5g of fish oils a day.

My diet is not the problem, my diet is good, and as I said I’m in fantastic shape. I’m 6’3”, 240 9%bf.
I think it’s actually one of the things that helps me get by.

Wow man, your an F’N OX eh? LOL.

How’s the sugar? Sugar screws me up like crazy. I’ve switched to more protein and complex carbs and more frequent meals. Nuts and berries for snacks instead of chocolate. Chocolate screws me up beyond belief too. Caffine is out.

I’ve had many guessers tell me that I’m bipolar, but who the fuck isn’t? I mean come on. So if your not depressed much and just have mood swings, there are many variables. We are complex beings. Multidimensional as well I think. I think there are hidden factors that influence moods that we aren’t even aware of.

An X-gf that is pissed off and thinking about you. That type of thing. Who knows. I stopped beating the shit out of myself about depression and all the mood swings. I found a routine that has me semi-stable.

Have you tried l-tryptophan instead of the 5-htp? 5-htp seems to build up over time and the end result for me = useless dick syndrome, just like zoloft and the rest of them. There’s nothing more depressing to me than not being able to finish when having sex or my pecker not working. That’s far more depressing than the depression itself in my opinion. L-tryptophan seems to have a more immediate effect but doesn’t have the long lasting side effects of 5-htp.

Don’t take it with protein though or the uptake to the brain will be minimal. Take it and wait an hour before eating. I do 500mg if I’m feeling shaky and or nervous and not quite right. However as I said in my earlier post, maca has done wonders for me.

I’d observe everything you are doing and try to figure out what small change you could make to gain a result.
Take something away, put something back. You have to be your own scientist in order to figure it out. Doc (guesser) isn’t going to figure it out. They’re just going to give you a F’N pill. A week later you’ll be wondering why your sexual function is ZERO. But most you guys already probably know about that. I can’t stand SSRI’s

Stars according to Lesser’s Pop psychy classification system, fit into a almost bipolar but different clumping. Moody for sure and has to run two diets to jump back and forth to each other when being pulled to the opposite pole.

If you take 5htp for insomnia for instance and it doesn’t make you sleepy or relaxed but acts in the opposite way, you are considered to have a fatty liver.
Fatty liver disease - Wikipedia
The treating and Beating book author gives 5htp to even people who according to others shouldn’t use, by following a specific protocol. It is firmly detailed in his 2006 book.

Both books are easy to read and have excellent footnoting with sidebars of data/information for the layman. The treating author hates drugs in almost all circumstances. The other doctor is more situational in nature. Both use use the same information in the book in their daily practices.

If one must, always use your tax dollars at work in the public library.

PS: I bought Stablon for 90 days out of Europe for my father who has fibromyalgia. He refused to take it saying only crazy people tke such things. Now when he complains, I tell him to go fuck yourself you whiny pussy. Stablon is not allowed into our country even though it is in most of Europe and has been used longer than I have been alive.
