How many sets a day hanging as a hanging beginner and a very advanced manual stretche

Is hanging really worth it?

I have been a hanger twice in my life.

The first time it was social suicide and I barely could get in 3X20 minutes (often spent 2-3 hours because I struggled with technique).

The second time I combined it with my studies, but I never got into the multi-tasking as it was too distracting so eventually I quit (with minor gains).

I just don`t know if it`s worth it, but I have my hanger and may brush some dust of it this year as I am reaching my length goal one way or the other.

If your scheduling is better then the last time then you’ll see gains. Have faith my friend it works.

That’s funny, Renholder, cause that is the best time for me to knock out two birds with one stone: whilst studying.

I had a music stand that I could set up my keyboard and mouse on to multi-task. Got a lot done that way even though I was tethered. It’s been along time but I’m starting again. Don’t know if a new job will interfer with progress but hopefully I can achieve some consistency again.

Yeah, I`m sure it works.

Actually, I know it works since I have gained with hanging:)

It`s just that for all my efforts, I just don`t know if its worth it compared to manual work.

Part of it is that using the Bib hanger was very time consuming even though I did get a lot better in attaching it later on.

Also, the weights got so high that it was very hard multitasking properly without loosing concentration.

My best period was straight out hanging with a pulley and relatively light weights. Still, attaching the hanger was very tiresome and broke my concentration and train of thought.

Perhaps I should try a vacuum hanger with lower weights, but more sets and combine it with an ADS or similar.

For now though, I will stick with water pumping for a few months and see if I can gain with that approach, which at least is very easy to apply.

I do however suspect that I will have to resort to hanging again this year to realize my goal (slightly less than an inch in length).

Opinions or suggestions?:)

Use an homemade extender. I works in a more sound way than light hanging.

Sounds more comfortable, but I`m afraid I won`t be able to use it as much as needed.

Well, you can’t be sure of anything in PE.

I think they should be used for at least 2 hours daily and up to 6-8. More than that doesn’t seem to give more gains. There are people who have used those devices for 1 hours daily and had gains, but generally speaking it’s hard to see gains using an extender for less than 2-3 hours daily.

Light hanging is recommended for at least 2 hours daily, but with pauses between it will requires about three hours, and hardly you can do something else while hanging - I mean, you can’t bring your dog to have a piss in the green or buy a newspaper or such.

There are threads here on how to make your homemade extender, it’s not that hard.

I remember you from Bib’s site, and wondered what happened to you, was following your log on there. I’m cdub on Bib’s site, not sure why I didn’t keep my name as PenisMagee on there, but anyway that’s me on Bib’s site.

Have you looked into what Horsedick & Airshy are doing? I think they pretty much are going off of Dashdeming’s post on MOS website for heavy hanging. This is what I’m currently doing. I just don’t have the time to hang for up to or more than 3 hours a day, so I am working on doing heavy weights about 2 times per day.

I’m currently at 16 lbs., and going up to 17.50 lbs. tomorrow. I plan on moving up in weight about 1 pound per week.

Moving up in weight just because a week has gone by is really the wrong philosophy. If you getting gains each month then it is unnecessary to hang heavier and heavier weights. The only time a person should increase weight is when all other avenues of stress have exhausted and gains have stopped.

I’ve gone three years without exceeding 20lbs with consistent gains throughout. Believe me ending up with weights in the 30’s and 40’s is not a badge of honor and is not something you should pound your chest about.

Understood Monty, and that is not what I am after. Yes there is pretty much a protocol that is tried and true for many when it comes to hanging. But lets not forget there are always other approaches. My main reason for going the heavy route is because I really do not have time to hang up to 3 hours or more a night. I’ve tried and I’m just not able to get anything else done much like Renholder was alluding to.

Not sure why you are thinking I am trying to be macho about hanging heavy weights, I am not. This method has worked for others, although it may be limited in the PE community. I am trying to set up a program that will work for me, as it stands I just do not have the time to hang that long. If I do not get any gains with the heavier weights I may reconsider a different strategy for myself.

Congratulations on your gains. I do use your stealth weights as well, thank you they are great.

Just wanted to add my response about the heavy hanging was mainly to Renholder. Sorry for hi-jacking the thread. I definitely do not recommend heavy hanging to any beginners. I’ve been messing around with hanging for almost 3 years and had to quit a few different times as a result of a few different circumstances.

Yeah, I remember you also :) What happened with me was that at some point I just had to realize that my efforts with hanging were not paying off as I had hoped. I also got back into full-time work so I did not longer have the time. Also, I had some health issues so it did not make sense to continue.

I did however gain 1/4” before I quit and I was hanging excusively SO (straight out) the last 6-7 weeks or so. The reason I changed to SO was that it allowed me to multitask (even though it took it`s toll on my concentration), even though Bib adviced against that angle. Not sure if the gains all came from SO or if it was my lig gains from BTC that was slow to materialize.

Thanks for bringing this new method to my attention. I`m already aware of it and to be honest, it sounds a little bit too risky for me. I`m also afraid that it may toughen the tissues too much so that future gains will be impossible without high weights or a long deconditioning break. But hey, I definitely understand not having time for Bib hanging and if you are threading carefully, it might be worth it;)
