I hang and am currently at 6lbs. I’m not upping weight when I should. I’m staying low due to sometimes only able to get 1-3 sets at 18-20 mins. I don’t take days off however I know you need to hang for 10 hours per week for gains. Has anyone had gains with less than 10 hours a week? What weight did you start noticing gains?

I was at 10 hours and about 10 pounds when I really started having crazy gains.

I don’t think 10 hours is set in stone. Some people can gain with less and some with more. However, I do think it is a good goal to shoot for.

However, I will also say that I am having one of my least productive hanging months so far. I was lazy after the last time I measured which is my norm, and when I usually pick up the pace my kids went on spring break. I am barely getting sets in and I am missing days. I measure in 3 days and I would be very surprised if I gained anything.

So no matter what the method I am sure it takes dedication to keep the gains coming.

I second this notion. I aim to hang 20 minutes per day and started hanging 22 months ago. I started with 2.5lbs, and did 128 sets with that weight, then did the same with 5, 7.5, 10, and now I’m at about 80 sets with 12.5 lbs. I’ve gained just over half an inch in about two years time, my EQ is better than it’s ever been. I just did the math and I’ve done an average of 8-9 total hours of hanging per month. I gained 3/8” in length in six months hanging, and I was up to 10 hours per week which is a tremendous dedication that I frankly don’t have time for at present.

My first inch came in around a year of stretching after which nothing worked until I began to hang.

After stopping hanging I lost the 3/8” I gained from hanging and so now I do the tom Hubbard one thing workout which is simply pulling with thumb and two fingers deep into the root for about a second per rep in sets of 100 throughout the day.

I haven’t measured yet, but after three weeks I know I’ve gained because my wife made comment last night about hitting a new spot.

I was doing manual stretches until recently when I decided to try hanging. There are two things that really attracted me to hanging; first, I like the details in the Hanging 101 thread. I tend to be very aggressive with things so I never knew if I was pulling too hard when I was doing manual stretches. With hanging, there are very specific details with regard to how much weight and how long you should hang. Second, at present I have a lot free and personal time. If I’m ever going to attempt hanging now is the time to try.
