3 Questions from a newbie

1) Is it better to stretch up and out, or straight down? I read that up and out is best for erect length gains but I don’t see how it can stretch the ligs?

2) Is manual stretching as effective as hanging weights or using traction devices like the Trac-Man? Most of the programs that use manual stretches say to stretch for 1 minute, release and repeat in all different directions. Is this effective or does the tension need to be constant for longer that 1 minute intervals ie hanging weight for 20 minutes straight?

3) Is jelqing worth the time? Does it have any effect on length? Can it be done right after stretching?

A lot of this is personal choice, finding what works for you.

A great number of people stretch down. The main ligaments are near the top of the penis, so when stretching down you can create a greater stretch on the top side of your penis more easily. This is taken to the extreme by stretching by holding your penis between your legs and stretching with a hand from behind your body.

This doesn’t mean that stretching up is worse its just whatever works best for you to get the ligament stretch. Some people stretch side to side to focus on a single side and thus increase the wrok done by the ligament in resisting a stretch of equal force to a straight out stretch.

A lot of people would argue that hanging is a lot better than stretching. It has advantages, you know the force you are exerting and it does not vary during the time you are hanging.

With stretching you have to rely on what you are feeling. The advantage here is if its doing nothing you can pull harder and if it hurts you can let go quickly. Also you tend to grip just behind the head so you are stretching almost the whole shaft rather than extering force at the midpoint.

I doubt there’s much difference between 20 minutes hanging and 20 mins static stretching.

Personaly I stretch down for a 20 min session releasing the grip and regaining circulation every 3-5 minutes, which is probably as close to hanging as you can get.

In terms of constant tension. Don’t worry about it. If you tire let go slap your penis against your thigh shake your hand a couple of times and start stretching again. When you come into or go out of a stretch you should do so gradualy rather than going from no force to full force in a jerking motion. Its worth checking out the (J)AI stretch for an interesting description of a stretch that is short but effective.

Yes jelqing is worth the time. If done right its another source of stretching (in 3 second bursts) and is effective in adding girth (its generaly considered a girth excercise) and length. I’m getting length from it (far more than girth). Its not a lazy persons excercise though, you have to be committed and not do it half heartedly whilst watching tv.

I only stretch straight out and down, sometimes to the right since I have a slight curve to the right. I really don’t think it makes any difference whether to go all directions or not. personally I think that straight out, down or between the cheeks is the most effective.

I think it can be especially for a newbie who is likely to experience fast early gains. no special equipment needed. unlikely to hurt yourself with your hands.

I think a minute is fine if you don’t have slippage, pinching etc, however many have done 20-30 sec stretches, just doubling the repetiions to get the same total stretch times.

3) Is jelqing worth the time?

I think that this exercise is the single most effective exercies there is. If I was told I could only do one pe exercise this would be it.

Yes, at 50-60% erection it is primarily a length exercise
at 60-70% erection it is fairly balanced length and girth.
over 70% it is a primarily a girth exercise. the versatility of this move for varous desired results is why I feel it is so valuable.

Yes.
