Okay, I have been off the finasteride for a little more than a week. So far I haven’t felt any different. You know, I feel my flaccid hangs heavier but that could be just because I’m looking for that.

I have been using my own homemade 3% spironolactone mix. It’s a little messy because I’m not a great chemist and didn’t have the tools or know-how to separate the filler from the pure spiro. Regardless, I refrigerate it and there seems to be no odor. I put this on at night.

For the morning, I start with shampooing my hair with 2% Zinc dandruff shampoo. I then follow with a mix of 5% minox mixed with saw palmetto (extract). I’ve researched that the majority say saw palmetto doesn’t do shit for hair when taken orally. I’ve read that only a small amount actually makes it to the scalp. I’ve read that topically though, some people have had success with it. Okay, I’m giving it a try. I was going to drop the minox but I found that because the saw palmetto extract I am using is oil based, the minox makes a better delivery system along with cutting down on some of that vitamin smell.

Once my hair dries from this crap in the morning (about 30 minutes) I put my homemade topical finasteride on. The Cetaphil helps to remove the oilyness.

This process is not as easy as popping a pill, however, it’s a nice change. My hair is shaved very short which makes this doable. If I had longer hair, this regimen would most likely be impossible.

I’ll keep you informed.

Hey Gut

Anything new to report?

I haven't failed, I've found 10,000 ways that don't work. Thomas Edison (1847-1931)

Sort of Dino. I have experienced increased erections throught the day. Last weekend I got pretty drunk and noticed that I got spontaniously hard for no reason. That hasn’t happened in a long time. When I’m boozed up, I have to basically be in the act for anything to happen. I guess the finasteride was affecting me to some degree. I’ve been on it for years so you just think everything is normal.

As far as the hair, it’s too soon to tell. It hasn’t thinned and it hasn’t thickened up either. Doing this routine topically is definitely not as easy as popping a pill and it stinks some too. My wife is pretty cool about it though. The morning routine makes me smell a little vitaminey but I spray some cologne in the air and walk under it to mask it up fairly well. Only when my head sweats do I really get a whiff of the saw palmetto. At night, the spiro stinks too but keeping it refrigerated also helps.

I’ll keep an eye on any weight loss or gain. That may be hard to guage though as I am on my summer diet and generally lose weight this time of year.

How about you? I heard that Flutamide is some powerful shit but I’m sure it’s way too early for you to notice anything. I was reading that it is a better antiandrogen than spiro but more expensive. If things don’t go well with my routine now, I may make a topical flutamide paste. I just need to research it a little more about how potent I should make it as I don’t want it to have any systemic effects.

For those that are worried about hair loss, you guys should consider using the lasercomb. (www.lasercomb.net)

$400 for the small one, but I’ve been using for 8 weeks and it’s been working wonders.

I took some before/after pics of myself, if anyone PM’s me I’ll be glad to share.

I’ve heard the laser comb works for some guys. In my opinion, I think it’s more the act of brushing your hair that helps. One of the habits of many balding men is that they stop brushing their hair in fear that they will lose more hair in the brush. I’m a firm believer that if your hair comes out in your brush, it was on it’s way out anyway. I brush my hair as often as I can. Many times I can feel the pulse beating in my scalp after doing so.

I suggest guys should start with the cheaper method of just brushing your hair and then stepping up to a laser comb if they think it’s necessary. $400 is a big investment for something that has such mixed reviews.

Well, when I use it, my I barely touch my scalp with the teeth, so I don’t think “brushing” has anything to do with it.

All I know is that it works for me. They have a money back garuntee, so I think it’s probably worth a try.

After a couple of days on it I noticed my blood pressure up a little so I stopped again. I’m totally confused! If you find out anything about Flutamide let me know. If I try again and notice a rise in my BP again I will let you know I may be having a fire sale:) .

Just to let you guys know that Genhair also has good prices on Finasteride and I got it in 7 days from India.

Hey Gut,

Not really sure if you are still planning to drop Minox, but if you are be careful.

I have been using topical Minox 2% and 5% for a long while and last year I stopped using topical Minox in June because the alcohol was causing my scalp to get super irritated, starting in late September early October my hair started shedding heavily on my crown and the front 1/3rd and the shedding went on for months.

The hairs that were falling were terminal hairs that were going into a telogen (resting) phase, the new hairs that came out to replace them underwent a huge step in miniaturization, I immediately had to go back on Minox again around late October, after going back on Minox I kept shedding hair for many months, new hair grew on my crown and it was shed again once I switched to Rogaine foam from regular liquid Minox which irritated my scalp.

I didn’t realize how much of my hair was Minox dependent until I went through this shedding (I’ve never had a shed while on Minox), I’ve been on Minox for over 12 years and on and off Propecia for close to 5 years. So finally after being back on Minox for close to 7 months the amount of hair on the crown area is back to the way that it was before.

As far as Propecia goes, I take the standard tablet and split it in half and take half the prescribed dosage (.5mg), according to some studies even .25mg is sufficient to lower your DHT levels.

My current regimen is the following:

Propecia .5mg every evening before going to sleep
Rogaine Foam applied twice daily
Tricomin Solution applied once daily between the Rogaine Foam
Shampoo every other day alternate between high quality hair products and Head and Shoulders

Just like some other folks mentioned, it’s imperative to have a DHT inhibitor along with a product that stimulates growth, otherwise it’s going to be a losing battle against hair loss in the long run. Unlike training, shocking your hair follicles frequently by changing regimens is not a good thing, whenever the hair follicle has a strong signal to either grow in width or to shrink in size it can lead the follicle to go into the telogen phase that can lead to eventual shedding.

I am 25 years-old and have used Propecia on and off for several years. I presently have a full head of hair but have noticed some thinning in the front and back, and male pattern baldness runs on my mother’s side of the family so I am trying to challenge genetics.

The first time I used Propecia, I noticed somewhat less firmness in my erections. However, future treatments did not seem to produce the same result.

I stopped using Propecia several months ago because my primary care doctor advised me of some liver health concerns from long term use of the medicine. I also feared the development of breast tissue, which I heard was another potential side effect that had been connected to use of Propecia.

Of course, everyone is different so not everyone will experience the same side effects, if any.

I forgot to mention that I do use generic minoxidil unscented solution twice daily and massage it into my scalp before using a styling product such as gel or paste.

You know I’m thinking about getting some inositol to see how that works. I loss hair due to a long bout of illness a couple of years ago. Some of it has returned with glutamine and ginkgo therapy but I want it all back.

Speak softly carry a big dick, I'm mean stick!

Is inositol an amino acid or something? I recall seeing it in a face wash I used to use but that’s the extent of my exposure to it!

I’m still on the fin and using MINOXIDIL 5% with GREEN TEA EXTRACT , AZELAIC ACID , FINASTERIDE, FLUTAMIDE lotion
Description: Minoxidil 5% lotion with Green Tea extract 2%, Azelaic Acid 5%, Finasteride 0.25%, Flutamide 2% , Alcohol 50%, PPG 10% which is in one bottle once a night. I miss days and don’t freak my hair is doing alright. As far as my blood pressure it has nothing to do with it and has gotten a lot better except when I’m stressing big time. Hey Kingpole what does inositol do fro your hair?

If I could ever find a topical that can work just as good as the Fin I will go off again, I like it better off. No doubt I have a stronger sex drive and I lose weight faster.
