Propecia problems?

Have any of you tried the new Revita Shampoo from Ds Labs? I keep hearing about it on the other boards.

Overpriced hoopla. Stick to good old Nizoral.

How’s the hair Dino?

Still doing the Propecia and the revivogen. One of these days I will start introducing the 15%-5% from Gen hair since I still have a bottle and a half to see if it raises my blood pressure. If it doesn’t I will go off the Propecia again. Hair is good:)

Glad to hear it.

Update and a proven point about weight gain and weight lost with Propecia. As soon as I went back on my weight lost first slowed and now stopped. In fact I gained back 2 pounds! This is with no change in my eating habits or exercise amounts. I had changed my eating habits to healthy eating whole grains and no junk or fast food and the weight was slowly coming off without even starving myself but since I went back on the Propecia that has seemed to change and I couldn’t believe the scale this morning when it said I gained 2 pounds. I’m sticking with the Propecia for another two weeks because I’m almost out of Revivogen and this ain’t a good money month and I have been trying to pay off credit cards. I will order some more in several weeks and than hope to go off the Propecia for good. This will also give me several more weeks to further test my theory I will try to up my exercise level a notch and lower my calorie intake a notch but not much to see if I can take any weight off without starving myself on Propecia.

Well those two pounds disappeared without too much effort so my theory is unproven once again:) . I tell you though my hair was doing better on the Revivogen and the gen Hair 15-5 than it’s doing just on the Propecia only. It hasn’t been looking great of late. But I’m not sure if the Gen Hair 15-5 was bothering my blood pressure so I will skip it for now. I actually found something that was more important than having hair a healthy body and heart.

Hey Dino, I may be on the experiment too. I’ve been on 1.25mg of finasteride for many years. I really don’t remember what life was like without it. My pills are about to run out so I am thinking of going topical. I may even opt for some spiro cream. Regardless, I think it would be nice to clear my body of it for a while. Maybe I’ll get back on it some time in the future when my tolerance to the drug wears off somewhat.

That’s great to hear bro I’m curious what will happen with you and will you experience anything like I did. I honestly think the combination of topicals I was taking was working better than Propecia. I had stopped hoping that they were the cause of my high blood pressure but I can still have high blood pressure days so I don’t think the topical stuff had anything to do with that. I have changed my whole diet and lost a good amount of weight and have tried a shit load of natural things and while they have helped somewhat I think I’m still going to have to go to the doctor. I haven’t been to the doctor in over two years. I will most likely be joining you off the Propecia soon.

Someone may have already posted these exact points, but I will go ahead and make them again:

- For those of you about to quit finasteride (aka Proscar, Propecia) because it is not meeting your expectations: Where is your alopecia occurring? If it is mainly receding on the temporal part of your head (I.e., the temples), then finasteride may not stop your hair loss. (I am taking 1.25 mg 4 days/1 off for temporal alopecia, and frankly, it hasn’t done much over the course of 2 years, and I have heard anecdotally that lots of people have the same issue as me. I haven’t seen an actual study on this, though.) However, if you are experiencing alopecia on the crown of your head (around the “swirl” on the top/back), then finasteride should help. It doesn’t totally regrow hair in many people, but it at least slows or stops further hair loss in most men. Finasteride is not a wonder drug, but it can help.

- People experiencing ED and attributing it to finasteride: Finasteride could be the cause of your ED. But studies don’t seem to back up finasteride as a causal factor of ED in most men. (Could possibly be correlative in some way, but I haven’t heard of any studies done on it.) If finasteride was the sole cause of your ED (again, a very rare scenario), then your ED should stop almost immediately after you discontinue use of finasteride. You could be in the less than 1% group that is experiencing ED due to finasteride, but more than likely, your ED is caused by something else (or several other variables, for that matter). Don’t automatically blame finasteride.

- People who want to get off finasteride and switch to another method: You can do that, but remember that whatever hair you have saved with finasteride (and there’s no way to tell how much) will fall out after you stop using it. When you stop using finasteride, the hair follicles whose receptors were formerly blocking DHT begin to receive it again, causing you to lose the hair that would otherwise have stayed in your head. So, if you want to stop using finasteride, that’s fine, but don’t be surprised if your alopecia picks up for a time after discontinuing the medication.

- Finally, I’ll reiterate the point made earlier—studies show finasteride to actually increase testosterone, not decrease it. (This is why gynecomastia is a possible side effect. Gyno happens to many steroid-using bodybuilders for similar reasons.)

Hope this helps clear up questions,
Cheers,
Jet

I hear you Jet. I am a diffuse thinner and finasteride has worked pretty well for me. As far as I know, I have not had any side effects. I have been on it for so many years now, maybe there are side effects and I just don’t know it. All I know is that it seems to keep the hair I have, I have managed to stay pretty slim, I have grown muscle, I don’t have any problem getting it up (except when I drink heavily), and I have conceived a child on it.

I feel however, it might be time for a change. I am going to continue with a regimine, however, it will be topical. I’ve been very interested in the changes Dino has been getting and wouldn’t mind seeing what changes will happen to me.

I have ordered some spironolactone and more finasteride but instead of taking them internally, I am going to apply them topically. I have done some research and have found that Cetaphil make a good suspention and topical delivery system. For the past couple of nights, I have been putting Cetaphil in my hair to see if I have any ill effects. So far, it’s just fine and when it dries, it’s undetectable. Here is my plan:

1. Topical finasteride in the AM
2. Topical spiro in the PM
3. Daily shampooing with a shampoo containing at least 2% zinc (most dandruff shampoos contain only 1% but a few have 2%).
4. 5 minutes of brushing twice a day

That is it so far. I am dropping minoxidil. I’m sure some of my hair was minox dependant but I have been using that for even longer than finasteride.

Hopefully customs doesn’t hold up my pills. When I receive them, I will be off the oral finasteride and my project will begin.

Gut

Let me know how that topical finasteride works for you because I would love to try it.

Not a problem Dino. I still haven’t received my goods yet but hopefully they arrive soon.

Gut Scramblin' goodness.

I just ordered this from Genhair.com so I’m joining you as a test subject:)

MINOXIDIL 5% with GREEN TEA EXTRACT , AZELAIC ACID , FINASTERIDE, FLUTAMIDE lotion
Description: Minoxidil 5% lotion with Green Tea extract 2%, Azelaic Acid 5%, Finasteride 0.25%, Flutamide 2% , Alcohol 50%, PPG 10%

Contains: Minoxidil 5% , Green Tea extract 2% (Poliphenols:98, Catechins:80, EGCG:70, Caffein:1.0), Azelaic Acid 5% , Finasteride 0.25% , Flutamide 2%

It’s in mixed topical form it ain’t cheap but my hair is not looking good just on just the finasteride and the Genhair 15-5 with 15% Minox and I think the 15% was messing with my blood pressure so I’m taking a break and so far my blood pressure has been much better. This new stuff has 5% and that didn’t use to bother me but I will see. I’m also going to get some plastic throw away gloves because I think I was absorbing to much through my hands because I was rubbing it on my scalp and than the Revivogen so it was double rub.

I got the stuff from Genhair “see post above” and I’m amazed how fast it got here. I tried it last night and it didn’t seem to elevate my heart rate which is good. I will let you guys know how this product is. I’m still staying on the Finasteride for a while to hopefully thicken up my roots again.
