Horny goat weed and Maca?

Is it safe to take both of these at the same time? There are so many supplements out there that I’m not sure which begin to overlap and if one can take too many. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

Gonna take a guess, and say you’re looking for improved EQ and increased libido? Those two supplements are usually popular suggestions for those two. And there are actually supplements out there that contain both. Also yohimbe and Long-jack. Yohimbe does affect blood pressure, so that is worth taking into consideration. Most of these are harmless. You may want to start one 3 to 5 days before the other, just on the chance you have a bad reaction to one, you will know which one is the culprit.

Horny goat weed never did squat for me.

Maca, on the other hand, is more effective.

HGW works for me.

I have not had great experience with Maca. I bought some pills a couple of times and they did nothing. After, I had read one needs to much larger amounts than what is in the average pill form. Essentially it was equal to a whole bottle of pills. Or real close. So I recommend buying by the bag and forgetting the pill form.

I had a friend that bought some Maca from Dr. Wong. He said it worked great for him. But after buying it 2-3 times from Wong he decided to find a cheaper supplier and did so. The other suppliers maca was just as good he reported.

I never did bother to order any bulk quantities.

Don’t worry to much about over dosing on this product. It is essentially a every day food in Peru, or where ever it comes from.

I’m going to agree with Panthers. Maca is a food, a root vegetable, something like a radish. It’s not really something to be extracted and concentrated in pill form. I bought a bag of it in powder form. It made me feel good in general, but I didn’t notice anything specific like improved harness or greater sexual appetite. But I did like it. I’ve never tried HGW, but just as everyone is different and will have different reactions to different supplements, not all HGW products are created equal. The internet gives you easy access to reviews of different products/brands.

Maca doesn’t work for me.

Horny goat weed is like an extremely tiny weak dose of a really poor quality viagra and very expensive by the other hand.

And speaking of herbal supplements, I recommend Rhodiola Rosea. It works good, at least for me.

I feel like I should state that maca is a food source, and HGW is a herbal supplement. The fact is, they are not drugs, so taking them and expecting an almost immediate effect like Viagra or Cialis is unrealistic. It will likely take 3 to 5 days to notice the full effect of these things.

In any case, thank you for the responses. I am actually reading/researching all the supplements that work to increase seamen volume and EQ. The only supplement I currently take is a 50mg pill of Zinc (from Nature’s Bounty) and it really does nothing for me.

Pula: Can you explain what Rhodiola Rosea did for you? I took a quick look into it and I didn’t see anything pertaining to sexual performance, although it does seem to be good for mental health. What brand do you suggest as well?

Now I take Now Foods Rhodiola. It gives me lots of energy, seems to work against anxiety and promotes well being. If taken too much I can feel it raises my BP a little bit, but nothing to worry about. And makes me HORNY, don’t know if it’s a direct effect or a circumstance of the above mentioned.

At one point I tried HGW and maca with a bunch of other supplements interchangably to compare effects. Maca results were absolutely weak at best compared to other testosterone stimulants like tribulus. However, I found that the NO2 releasing properties in HGW worked very well with a gram of simple L-arginine. Take that with any dry heat foods or supplements like yohimbe, or Ginger, or pepper, on an empty stomach and you’ve really got something.

The mix that gets me really on is ginger+lemon juice+cayenne pepper+honey+propolis. It stimulates bloodflow and gives tons of energy. Maybe I’ll mix it with rhodiola next time.

Rhodiola did nothing sexual for me as I recall. Tried capsules and liquid extract. I do believe I did feel better, not really more energy. Or maybe it was just more mental energy?

Yohimbe works for me. The only kind that did not was liquid extract. Every other brand I tried worked. Some more than others.

I currently use NOW brand HGW. It is like 14 bucks. 90 compressed pills/caplets. I take on average 2 a day. Not very expensive in my opinion.Morning and night and get rather good results. For those with a serious erection problem, I would not bother buying them. They do not compare to erection medication, period! Regardless the cost of a doctor and drugs, in the long run it will be cheaper to go that route than to experiment with all the over the counter promises. I PROMISE!

I do not have erection issues. I am 41. So I use this stuff to slow down the slowing down. I recommend going to a doctor and using erection medicine if one does have a problem. Look into changing and improving your diet and please start to exercise. There was both an Italian study ( If I recall correct) and a Israeli study ( That is correct) that found men with ED who walked like 2 or 3 miles ( shoot for an hour a day of walking, it is roughly 3 miles) had erection improvement comparable to Viagra usage. I say that is crap, the drugs will trump exercise but the exercise can and will improve not only your natural ability to achieve erection but also your response to the ED medication.

I come from a family that has a big interest in natural supplements for many years. I’m no doctor, not any kind of expert, but have a bit of an answer to what seems to be your overriding question. Overwhelmed with the abundance of products that claim to help sexual functioning, where does one start?

As you can see even in this short thread, lots of conflicting answers as to what works for different individuals. That’s because we are all different. Even in this really tiny sample a bit of a pattern emerges. For some, maca works but hgw doesn’t or for others hgw works but maca doesn’t. I fall into the former group.

In the practice of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) your body needs a balance of two different types of energy: yin and yang. You can be out of balance by having too much of one and a deficiency of the other. I can’t remember which one I tend to be (it’s been a while but I think my former acupuncturist told me) I tend to be yang deficient. And for that reason, she advised that I NEVER take hgw. She didn’t know that I had already experimented with hgw with horrible results.

I tend to disagree with the attitude that if a supplement is sourced from a plant that is a common food that it could be considered less effective or weaker than medicines that are developed from western MD fields. Even most medicines use ingredients from natural sources. It’s just a matter of the way they are extracted and concentrated. The opium poppy gives us the pleasant high of smoking it’s dried sap; or cough syrup with codeine; the strongest painkiller morphine or the nasty addictive heroin. Yohimbe supplements can be extremely potent and can have very powerful effects and strong and even nasty side effects.

A good first step is to really analyze your own situation and decide which one or two areas you really want to address. Of course we’d all like to be the bionic man and be stronger, faster, better with a telescope eye and long distance hearing abilities. Applied to sexual functioning, we’d all like to get harder faster and stay harder longer and shorten refractory period and shoot copious amounts of jizz long distances, etc etc. But don’t fix what ain’t broken and try to address one or two areas at a time, at most. There are many components to sexual functioning. Most guys can function well in a few areas and could use a little boost in other areas.

If you have low interest or desire for sex, or if you think about it and want to get horny but don’t get excited much up front, then Muira Puama and/or Mucuna Pruriens (velvet bean seed) could help. If you’re randy all the time and even not-really-hot-chicks(guys) get you all jazzed up then you probably don’t need those products.

If your problem is more in the next phase, you get horny easy and your dick kinda sorta responds but not as strong as you like, then maybe a little ginseng and/or yohimbe just before you have sex will give you a little boost.

It’s really a lot of individual choices.

Definitely avoid products that want to throw everything at you to see what works. Instead of taking a product that has both maca and hgw, find out which ONE of those products work for you. Also there are supplements you DO NOT want to take on a daily basis, such as any one of the following ginsengs: chinese, red, korean, panax. These are all similar to each other. They make you run hot. They don’t really “give” you energy. They cause your body to release and expend energy that is stored in your body. These are good if you are feeling strong and healthy, and in the final moments before you need to perform, you take them to release energy and make it available. Then you need to take a break from them to regenerate your stores of energy. Do not take those ginsengs when you are sick, especially if your illness is heat related like if you have a fever or burning sore throat.

Again, in answer to your original question, just analyze your own specific situation and address one or two issues with a small number of products that claim to target those specific issues.
