Pumping gains - Hypertrophy vs Hyperplasia

Hi All,

I am working on a hypothesis for why some pumpers gain and some do not.

There are a lot of factors to consider given the psychological effect of the impressive temporary gain and subsequent return to normal, but I need to some feedback from people who have been consistent with their pumping whether they have made gains or not.

My current hypothesis is that pumping can induce hypertrophy (increase in cell size) or hyperplasia (increase in cell number) depending on the routine.

Some people never seem to make permanent gains with pumping and I think that these people experience mostly hypertrophy but not hyperplasia, meaning they get a tunica stretch that lasts for hours, days or weeks, but no increase is tissue.

Other people report permanent gains from pumping and it would seem these people experience an increase in tissue, i.e. hyperplasia.

I suspect that the key to permanent gains is low pressure, longer times, minimal fluid buildup and multiple sessions throughout the day in conjunction with jelqing in freshly oxygenated blood after a pumping session.

I’m interested to hear people’s views on my hypothesis and specifically I wonder if EQ is the link to determining if pumping will give permanent gains. For people who are gaining, are your erections harder or softer straight after pumping and then again after a rest day or two?

My erections were profoundly harder to begin with, but after a month they became less so, to the point where I became concerned.

After a few days rest ( since Friday last.) My erections came roaring back.. If erections can actually roar.

I think the issue is upping pressure to soon after entering the pump and not just keeping the pressure down and doing longer sessions.

Quite simply, I got mesmerized by the size I got in the pump and always wanted more.


Began December 2009 at 5 7/8" length and 5" girth.

As of December 5th 2012 7 3/8" BPEL and 6 1/8" base girth.

Going for the magic 8"x6"

Hi a-unit,

Do you think you have made any permanent gains from pumping? After a few days off did girth decrease?

I feel like I can’t get rock hard after pumping and I suspect it is due to the fact that the tunica has stretched so much. I wonder if the internal pressure in the CC can not raise high enough for sufficient veinous occlusion to allow for a good quality erection?

After a few days off my erections are harder but girth is also back to my starting point. Do you find this?

After 15 minutes of pumping, I got myself an softer penis … nothing that 10 minutes of edging afterwards did not solve it all. Those 10 minutes of edging has been so nice to me that even after session I can blast an hard full erection.

I think the most suitable word for “permanent gains” would be “longer lasting”. Too early to tell if what we gain will really stick forever (silly to say that, but it is my opinion). Ok that few PE exercises got few hundred years old … but PE at this level we got here, it is quite fresh.

We need an heavy science interference and study at PE exercises to reach something conclusive.

In short, if we gained and decided to stop, “maintenance routine” is a must to keep what we hardly earned.

I agree with useless, it’s hard to say if the gains are going too last forever. But I will say that I had my first go at PE a few years back, I did it for about 5 months and got some good gains. Than I totally stopped. Many years after when I got into it again ( October 2014) I still had about 60% of my gains left..
I’ve got some good gains since then and I’ve been pumping since November 2014 and I pump about 5-6 times a week.
Everyone that is into PE knows how important heat while exercising is, that’s why I always pump in a hot bath, and I pump many short periods (4-8 x 5-10 minutes) with at least 5 minutes of stretching between seasons.

An interesting thread. I’m quite new to this (1 month), but I stretch, jelq and pump, in sets. I notice that my initial erection size is the same as it ever was, more or less. But with a little encouragement I can access the gains I am making through PE. It seems to me to be analogous to a balloon. Some balloons are hard to get past that initial inflation size. But one you have done it once, it becomes easier to inflate thereafter. Basically, I think the penis has an elastic response that is very non-linear with the internal or external forces applied. Before I started PE I could never access the elastic regime that I can now access. In fact, anyone that pumps can see how their size responds to changes in vacuum pressure. Its clearly an elastic response.

So, if by doing PE we are changing the elastic response of the tunica and ligaments, I suspect this is actually plastic deformation - not sure if this is the same as ‘hypertrophy’ - probably not. Rather, I suspect this is much like leather forming. Leather can be shaped, or formed, by immersing in boiling hot water, and then stretching it over a frame. By stretching, jelqing and pumping perhaps we are reproducing this forming process, albeit our ability to change the hydration level and temperature of our units is very limited. But we try!

Eventually, on longer timescales with regular expansion/stretching I expect hyperplasia will be relevant. Indeed, my gains in the first 2 weeks of PE, from BPEL 6.5 x 5.4 MEG to 6.9 x 5.7 cannot be the result of hyperplasia, that is clear. It must be a change in the elastic properties of my penis - as can be seen in the pump.

In relation to girth, the tunica certainly has the ability to stretch as we see going from flaccid to erect. In a nutshell, when we are erect the tunica has reached it’s elastic limit and the pressure of the blood in the CC pushing against the tunica occludes venous outflow causing the penis to get rigid.

If the tunica is stretched too far from pumping I wonder if it looses the ability to reach a “hard” elastic limit? If in fact it just stretches further but with diminishing returns? If this is the case, pumpers may loose the ability to ever get a rock hard erection. I mean the type where the penis is as tight as a drum and stands to full attention and you can almost feel it pulse under the pressure.

Interested to hear people’s thoughts on this.

When I have an erection after pumping I’m get really hard.

I can’t say that pumping has soften my erections, it just makes them thicker.

Here is the routine I’ve been focusing on for more than a year. Knowing that I never really do the same session, number of exercises, pressure, time.. Everything changes all the time.

But an average routine would look like this :

I always pump in a hot bath. And I rarely take days off.
(1) 20 minutes stretching
(2) 5-10 minutes pumping
(3) 5 minutes stretching, massaging and firegoat rolls
I do ass many step 2 and 3 as I fell like.. Usely until the water gets too cold.. Always finishing with step 3.

And that is it.. For me.
I am focusing on getting my BPEL goal first, I’ll do something very different when I’ll focus on girth.
But if it’s length that you are looking for.. My rather simple routine works pretty well for me.

I would say that probably being in a hot bath the whole time helps big time, as for the pressure I’ve been pumping with a rather cheap pump with no gauge, but it was getting too small so I ordered one from thickwall!! So I’ll be able to give more details about the pressure after receiving it.
And the other thing I always do, the reason why the pumping time is deivided in little sessions is that I really try to keep the skin from building up fluid ! That’s why I take it out, massage it, do some fire goat rolls for the discoloration and of lots of stretching…as soon as the swelling is almost normal, I go for another pump…
I wanna say that those 2 things are crucial to me…

I find after my pumping, I’m hard on the inside with some mild fluid built up on the outside. Over the years I’ve found pumping to be quite reliable for permanent gains. I think you can make them permanent if you safely pump to the larger size. There will come a time when you have permanently increased your length and girth.

Thanks. I was fortunate enough to find out what works for me early on. I tend to think that most can grow with a smart pumping routine.

I have tried a number of combinations with pumping, the only constant is that I always use heat. 5 mins at 4hg; 10 mins at 4Hg; 10 mins at 5Hg; 15 mins at 4Hg; 15 mins at 5Hg up to 20 mins. Only ever one session at this stage.

I never come out of the tube hard, even if I go in hard. I often pump with a cockring these days too. Maybe coming out hard is the key to success?

Picodon, I like the idea of short duration pumps followed by stretching and fire goat rolls followed by more pumping. I will try that.

Titleist, once again thanks again for your input. Like Picodon you have been a source of inspiration for me and you are the reason I am really trying to make pumping work for me.

The importance is starting hard each session. Condition yourself to get three to four sets at a decent pressure. Take your time and work up to it. Listen to your dick and you’ll be fine.
