I'm a newbie plz help

Most of us are understanding, and that is why we don’t allow chat speak on Thunders. That is why the orignator of this post got jumped on big time about the guidelines. We understand it is an international forum and not all of us speak English as our first language. When we know that English isn’t the first language we tend to be more tolerant shall we say about misuse of words.

My apologies if I seemed at all prejudiced against those who are learning English, as I am not. My problem is with people who already know the language but insist on acting like they don’t.

Apologies are not needed here. Just makes some people not want to post if they think they maybe jumped on for bad english. I do moderate on other english speaking sites as i was asked to for my interest in those fields, but usually find it hard as my words do not come easy. Yes i hate chat speak as well but use it on mIRC as i usually get many questions asked to me. Hope i did not step on anyone toes here. Sorry

You didn’t step on toes, honest. We don’t mind the bad english, its the chat speak we don’t allow, and you don’t use it.

I will be honest, Americans destroy the English language, I admit it. But, you can learn almost proper sentence structure here, you can almost learn about prepositions here and other useless knowledge :) . We do give A’s for effort around here, when we can tell you (meaning any member who has english as a second language or ESL) are doing their best to get the message across.

I am a pedantic English lover but have some weird mental block concerning these two words. It doesn’t matter if I have something like the above written down on a post-it note on my desk. If I am not actually looking at the definitions/difference I will still confuse these two.

I am picking up on the intended humor but others may not. Until the guys get to know you some will take exception to stuff like this. Rather than refer you to the guidelines I would suggest looking at the emoticons, located just below the “submit reply” button. I am not a big emoticon fan but the addition of something like ;) to your above post can work wonders.

Cub, guys like you are why we insist that everyone use proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling to the best of their (Ha! I got it right.) abilities.

No. I was trying to see how many of those common errors I could jam into a reply to the person who put up the definition of the word “snob”. I was an attempt at levity. But hell, I’m not even laughing at it. It was just pitiful.

You’re a pedant? Isn’t that some kind of pervert? :D I’m a pedant too. There’s a 12 step program for people like us, I think. O:-)

I have a profound respect for anybody who is trying to learn English. It is a difficult language. I just find it annoying when someone who’s been speaking it all his life crucifies his mother tongue, and we North Americans are especially bad about that.

Ah, well. One man poops another man’s ice cream.

BTW, none of the above makes my dick a millimeter longer. It just doesn’t FEEL so short now. :D

Bally ho, old chaps not sure what bally old English one is referring to but it jolly well doesn’t’t sound like the type of lingo one is accustom to in good olBlighteyey.
