Contrast Bath: vasodilation, circulation, healing .
Contrast Bath:
This technique consists of alternating between hot and cold, where goals are vasomotor, that is, the agent circulatory changes that promote cold and heat in the tissues.
It held two containers, one containing a mixture of ice and water, and the other with hot water at a temperature ranging from 40 º C to 45 º C.
Hot water should be initiated with a 5 min. To promote vasodilation by altering blood flow of 1.6 liters to 1.71 liters. Then be used to cause a cold immediate drop in subcutaneous temperature and deep.
We must end the technique using cold lasting 3 min. In order to cool the tissue and reduce the metabolic needs of the same.
Total Time: 30 min. By following the information previously mentioned in relation to the beginning and end of the application of each physical principle, where cold and hot.
Heat - Therapeutic Effects of Heat:
1. Relieves pain.
2. Increases flexibility of the muscle-tendon tissue.
3. Decreases joint stiffness.
4. Improves muscle spasm.
5. Improves circulation.
The application of heat, promotes alteration of the physical properties of the tissues that form tendons, joint capsules and scar tissue, improving their responses to stretching.
Cold - Therapeutic Effects of Cold:
1. Decreases muscle spasm.
2. Relieves pain.
3. In the trauma (sprains, bruises, sprains, etc.) prevents the swelling and reduces inflammatory reactions.
Contraindication
Do not heat areas of the body that are anesthetized, swollen, inflamed, bleeding wounds in areas where there are tumors on the testicles, on the abdomen of pregnant women or in areas of the body of an unconscious person.
I believe it is better to finish with the heat.
