Anxiety ruining my sex life

Anxiety ruining my sex life

Hi everyone, i’ve been suffering from anxiety for about 8 months now, and it seems as I take one step forward I take about two back. Althought now I am able to do a fair bit of exercise and can leave the house and go out, clubbing and what not, it seems like my sex life has just been completely ruined! When the anxiety first started me and my girlfriend of the time noticed significant changes, however I was able to slightly compensate for them with upping my dosage of arginine slightly, still wasn’t the same, but allowed me t get the job done. Now though it just seems like I have no sex drive, I have ED and its seriously making me want to consider being celibate! Recently my drives just been getting worse and worse! Cant maintain erections, don’t get turned on, and have lost a great deal of sensitivity in my penis. I can’t take my supps nomore because they often cause severe headaches and it just feels like im stuck in a rut! Please can anyone help, Im 19 and really dont want to become celebate so please any help would be appreciated. If theres any other info you require to help please don’t hesitate to ask.

Thank you

First of all, settle down, bud. Everything will be ok. I remember when I was 17 and had a very low sex drive (materbated only once a week) and I thought there was something wrong with me. Couldnt figure it out for the life of me. Looking back, It was because I was super busy AND under A LOT of stress. Im 25 now and have a great sex drive.

I have a feeling maybe you are under a lot of stress too? Maybe this is what is causing your anxiety?

Regardless of what it is, the best thing for you to do is go see a doctor and tell him exactly what you wrote in your post.

Second that. Lots of uncertains here, difficult for anyone to give any sound advice from afar.

Hmm thanks. I suppose I do have some stress in regards to how to deal with my anxiety, and as a result of it where is my future going, however I am not working at all at the moment so I do get time to relax, but the sex drive is just not there. Maybe I should go to my docs about it, i’ll have to think about that one though.

You don’t say how long this libido thing has been going on for you. Are you saying for 8 mos or are you saying you’ve had anxiety for 8 mos and libido loss is more recent?

What medications are you taking?

When I was about 20 and Bouncing in a bar and I was screwing anything that walked including my girlfriend my friends fiancee and bosses wife. I was also seriously into weight training and was in amazing shape and on a super strict diet of mostly protein. I also took almost every supplement known to man. One day I started feeling bad for being such a shit my friend had caught me screwing his girl, in a rush I had tucked my shirt back in and it was sticking through my pants zipper. All the sudden guilt caught up with me because I started having trouble staying hard during sex and my sex drive was down. At this time I stopped being a back stabbing shit and I also stopped most of my supplements and added more fat to my diet and I was soon back to normal. So I can’t say what it was maybe a combination of guilt and diet or either or. So if I was you I would take a good look at your issues and see what’s bothering you I would also stop taking any kind of supplement that you think could be an issue.

Hmm thanks for all your help again.

In reply to avocet, libido went with anxiety, so yes for about 8months, but now its seems a whole lot worse, so in other words was bad, and has deteriorated.

In reply to westla, I am not exactly on medication, just herbal supps, at the moment its arginine, saw palmetto, lysine (for when I’m out of arginine), gingko leaf, and cod liver oil for general health. For the anxiety, I’m on; St. john’s wort, valeria root, and B-vitamins. Is that helping any with a diagnosis then?

I really do think I have a circulation problem CAUSED by the anxiety, but I wonder if its possible to treat them separatly? My reasons for saying I have this problem is because, I get a weird leeking/pressure feeling in my vessles wen exercising, or being erect, so it’s clearly all over my body. Any know what could be wrong?

When things stop working (sexual or other) at the same time as anxiety they are nearly always related.

It is essential to break your concerns down into (hopefully) manageable elements that you can then look at and then perhaps deal with.

1) According to your first post your sex life was OK prior to the anxiety kicking in. Is this correct?

2) Did you lose your job around this time as well (you mentioned you are not working)?

3) You make no mention of what caused the initial anxiety. If you can look back to that time it could be useful to know what caused it to kick in in the first place.

4) The problem is then that anxiety feeds on itself. Even if the original cause of the anxiety is no longer around (may or may not be the case), your anxiety self-perpetuates because everything you are saying about the situation and about yourself (“I take one step forward and take about two back”….. “it seems like my sex life has just been completely ruined!”…. “its seriously making me want to consider being celibate!”…. “t just feels like I’m stuck in a rut!”) amplifies the negative outcome you are getting.

5) you mention going to see a doctor. This is a VERY good idea. Self-diagnosing sucks and even asking your well-meaning friends on Thunders is only a tiny part of the solution. I would suggest a caring Doctor (find a good one) will quickly tell you that your self-diagnosis from your last post (“weird leaking/pressure feeling in my vessels when exercising”) is not actually happening.

6) Your doc may or may not see symptoms of depression and these days that can be easily and safely medicated so really there is nothing to fear and a great deal to gain from going the clinical route.

Certainly before you go further into the downward spiral you seem to be in, get some help and do it now.

I started taking St. John’s wort about 12 years ago and it made me feel anxious. I had to stop taking it after about a week.

Its pretty difficult to offer any effective advice, since you are only describing to us your symptoms and not the real problem that is causing them.
Its already been stated above, but your issues sound far deeper and more complicated that what can be evaluated by a few strangers unfamiliar with you or your life.

I don’t mean to sound “off-putting” but it sounds like you need to consult a specialist to identify and deal with your “real” problem.
Unless you know exactly what it is and would like to share that with us, maybe we can help.

My previous post makes it sound like your problem is strictly psychological , while it could be medical, of course.

For starters, try putting away all those supplements you are taking and just eat a basic healthy diet for a month.

Saw palmetto causes ED and even gyno, so this might be your problem.

Your anxiety should be your main problem to focuse on, better go to a psychiatrist and get some real medication.
St John’s wort is bullshit for grandmamas.
Too much Ginko and caffeine give me feelings of nervousness and anxiety.

I think getting rid of your anxiety will solve your ED problem.
