Propecia sexual side effects - expected and unexpected

Unfortunately I inherited the relatively-early-receding-hairline gene common in my family, so a few weeks ago I finally caved in and started a Propecia regimen. I had put it off because I didn’t like the sound of the “potential sexual side effects”. With some research, though, I found that: the side effects are rare or mild; that they typically go away before long when they do occur; and that, worst case, you can go off the regimen and the side effects will go away.

Well, I experienced some side effects, both expected and unexpected. The first effects kicked in within a few days of starting: I had almost no libido. I tried masturbating in this state and found that I could barely get myself off! Plus, of course, my erection was a 90% at best, and it didn’t want to stick around.

That was the worst of it, and it went away within a week. Since then, my libido has seemed pretty normal. Maybe I don’t get in the mood quite as often. And when I do, I’m not as consistently fully erect. It would be great if this would subside too, but if it doesn’t I will consider it a small price to pay for a stable hairline! Especially if I can use other supps to offset these side effects.

But here’s the weird part. Since I’ve started with the Propecia I’ve also been getting a lot more precum than usual. Strangely, this started when my libido was at rock bottom! And it doesn’t happen every time, but when it does, I can literally get a lather going. It’s crazy! And it has to be related to the Propecia; I’ve always been a big leaker, but never nearly this much (except for when I was on Pygeum for a while… this now is about the same output), and I can’t think of anything else in my lifestyle that could have made this change.

Anyone out there have Propecia sexual side effect stories? Anyone experience this particular odd change?

Oh man :-s :hot: There is nothing that gets me hotter than a bald-headed guy. In my book Propecia is along the lines of breast-reduction surgery for women. Please reconsider. If it really bothers you, you can go the shave it all off route. Which is also hot! I mean, Vin Diesel, The Rock, Michael Chiklis, Samuel Jackson, and most of all Billy Zane!

I think it's the woman's job to tighten up to fit her man--it's lots easier for us.

Hmm, could it be that your username is derived from “Billy Zane”?…

You are quite the myth-dispeller, Zaneblue. But I wonder how common it is for women to find bald heads as hot as you do? Sounds like a good poll or posting idea to solicit input. How do you feel about receding hairlines? Hot also?

I don’t hate my hair… yet. Actually, it looks pretty cool with the right cut. But after another year or two? Maybe not so good. And I don’t know if I could pull off the bald look.

That sucks. I guess you were one of the unlucky-er ones. Foggy mind? I hadn’t heard of that effect before.

Yes, my online career got started lo, many years ago by writing Billy Zane erotic fanfic.

Receding hairline hot too, but not as hot as outright bald. Must keep hair very short to pull off the look, though

The look does go with muscles, although I dispute the tan—Michael Chiklis isn’t tan. I can only say ugly bald heads are like ugly cocks—that’s an ugly in a good way, sexually speaking.

In another thread I explained my rather farfetched hypothesis that baldness is a human secondary sexual characteristic—like big peacock tails or antlers. Although I’m not exactly unbiased on the topic.

Clearly a lot of women do like the full head of hair, otherwise why else would Bruce Willis bother to sport a hairpiece in some of his movies? But I’ve noticed younger actors just let it all hang out. I think this is the influence of black culture on the media, where bald is most definitely considered a universally hot look. In other words, I think younger women have a more open mind about that sort of thing—probably not the under twenty set, but certainly the under thirty set.

While the cueball look might not be universally admired, I like to think women like me inhabit the more sexual end of the spectrum.

I took propecia for 10 years from 1993-2003 and I believe it is one of the reasons I am having such severe problems now. Besides the sexual problems, brain fog is extremely difficult to handle. What brain fog means to me is that I have a very hard time concentrating on anything for more than a fraction of a second. I cannot remember things from just 24 hours ago.

I think it is the lack of concentration that keeps me from getting sexually turned on anymore which leads to erection problems and such. At work it keeps me from making the proper decisions. Someone will ask me a question and I will give them a wrong answer and then catch myself about 20 minutes later and come up with the correct answer. You can look at my handwriting from about 5 or 6 years ago and it is crystal clear and very legible but now it looks more like a doctor’s writing on a script.

I used to be able to have these very elaborate sexual fantasize which lead to numerous spontaneous erections throughout the day and morning wood every morning. Since the brain fog came on I don’t have them anymore which is why I haven’t had morning wood in three years.

My advice would be to NOT TAKE PROPECIA!! The potential side effects are simply not worth it.

Shit! I wish I’d turned up some of this in my research! Maybe I’ll re-think the Propcia. Though I’m six weeks into it and well into the shedding phase…

That makes some sense. After all, why do only men experience hair loss, and not women? And then there’s the thing about how hair loss is closely related to how much testosterone a guy has in his system. Still, as you say, it’s not every woman’s cup o’ tea.

I’ve been on the drug for more than five years. I have no problems with erections or libido or memory (other than those normally associated with someone 54 years old). The bald spot that was just beginning when I started (it was only thinning hair, but I could see where it was going) has never returned. You’ll get both positive and negative experiences (there are already a few threads on it in the forums here) and you have to make up your mind based on your experience not that of others. Six weeks is hardly enough time to see if it works, much less if the side-effects are tolerable.

What planet do you live on? Plenty of women suffer from hairloss.

There was a study done recently on big antlers and I think dark lion manes, showing that they correlated to sperm health and motility. Okay, this is a big jump, but DHT positively correlates with human sperm motility, I think, and it certainly also affects balding. I think putting that together with the fact that no other primates have male pattern baldness, that baldness shows off the particularly human trait of a large forebrain, and that it has been recently discovered that subhuman hominids coexisted with humans for much longer than previously thought—it makes sense. Men showing off their big bulging forebrains to the wimminfolk. Especially since there’s no survival value to having baldness.

Yes, it’s a far-fetched hypothesis and I can’t imagine anyone more biased, but I think I’m right just the same.

Have anyone ever tried Procerin? Someone recently recommended it to me and I was thinking about getting some.

Supposedly it’s not supposed to have sexual side effects, but who knows.

Here’s a link that discusses it.

the lovelybone,

As westla experienced, I also have had no sexual side effects to speak of, except for an initial reduction in my semen volume. No libido problems, impotence problems, etc., and I’ve kept my hair. I’ve been taking propecia continuously since 1998.

It’s a personal matter. You have to make your own decision, but do a search on “propecia” on this site. There are many other threads and posts on the topic.

Another thing to know is that you could take 1/10th the regular 1mg propecia dose and have almost the same benefit for your hair, with much less chance for bad sides. I’m taking .3mg per day with nothing bad to report.
