Awesome old thread with tons of theory and examples. It cleared up about 70% of my muddy waters! I must say a needed read for any hanger!

To Bib :

Hmm , read your post but I am not sure if I understood it right …

My situation : I can hang 20 pounds for 45-60 minutes .
After the session I am well sore.
My Question : Should I hang for a longer time with lower weight , or is it O.K the way I do it ?

Thx in advance.

We want micro tearing but not “macro” which may happen at high weights. So what about bundled/twisted stretching with a small weight or an ADS?

I know, old thread but well worth bumping

The "average size" is usually over-estimated. Small guys don't take part in surveys and big guys jump at the chance.

Girl claims she had a huge ex? Stick a spider in the bathroom or a mouse in the kitchen and when she comes out screaming ask her how big the spider/mouse was...

In general, I feel no soreness right after a workout, it takes place hour later and the best way for me to describe it would be an ache in the abdomen like having “the shit knocked out of me”. This is welcome and I feel that it is beneficial, I actually seek this feeling out. The shaft is often sore, when it becomes too much I simply change the attachment point. I sometimes experience bouts of skin soreness, to combat this I soak the shaft in 4,000 I.U. Vitamin E oil, and it works great. I have experienced no acute pains, however, a pain for someone else, some may easily tolerate and press on,IMO. I do have what I would say extreme soreness, but I deal with it and love it. When I cough or bend over and feel the soreness or pressure, I feel I am “going to town”. What is strange to me is I hang mostly BTC and SD and experience internal tunica soreness other report form OTS work( ex. when I pull my dick up toward my chest it is very sore and sometimes unbearable, I can’t pull with my full strength). My LOT is still 8:30 and my whole package is still high, when my package drops visually,I will go strictly upper angles. I have been as high as 34 lbs. when I was on a 1 hr. day program, now after hanging 3-4 hours a day this has dropped to 10 lbs., this is lovely,IMO.

Extremely good thread, lets keep her going.

BTW, I have never ever felt any lig fatigue at the base, but my base has thickened. The fatigue from lower work has always been very upper, feels like right under the abdominal muscles.

If you have the time, hang as much as you can, at lower weights, in this fatigued state. Sometimes you can do this with no problem, and sometimes, any weight whatsoever is too much.

My opinion or theory is that this fatigue brought on when hanging your max weight is a sign of deformation and weakening of the tissues. Continuing to hang at lower weights does a couple of things; it continues to deform the already weakened tissues, while working on the underlying limiting factors which may not be as tough.

I always felt like most of my progress was made while hanging the lighter weights while in the fatigued state.

With experience, this may be fine. But you must watch for too much stress. Things like fulcrum hanging might be better, or safer, because in general, the stresses are all still longitudinal. The problem comes when a force from a different vector comes into play.

Alice,

Great post.

This is some more good information that may help new hangers out there.

And yet it hasn’t made your favorites (or at least you haven’t shared them for others).

mem it is from my favorites along with some others. I thought I would just bring back some good threads to help the new guys and it would answer some questions without them starting a new thread on the same subject. Again

So why aren’t you sharing your favorites?

You get a neat extra button under your posts if you do.

Hmmm. :-k That is a cool idea for the favorites. I never knew about that, how eople can see other peoples favorite threads and links. How cool! :)
