Should I strive for discoloration?

Should I strive for discoloration?

In a way, I guess I’m looking for discoloration as a sign that I’ve been doing something… So far, I haven’t seen any discoloration — either on the shaft or head. I feel like I’m going pretty intense, so I wonder if this means my technique is off, or if I don’t know what to look for in the form of discoloration. So, question 1: does lack of discoloration mean lack of progress/application of ineffective technique? (particularly if I’m not getting spots on my head) Question 2: for lack of a better way to ask, what does discoloration look like (i.e. blotches, etc.), and where does it occur?

Nah, if you feel like you are doing an intense workout and you don’t get red dots, it just means the soft tissues have toughened up (good). Discolouration is not a sign of progress - I had discolouration for a long time before my first gains.

Where it occurs depends on the exercise, hangers can get it forward of where the hanger attaches and with uli’s you get it forward of the gripping hand (or uli thing or clamp or whatever). It tends to appear on the underside first. Have a scan through member pics. Check out stillwantmore’s pics for an example of discolouration from hanging.

Oh, I will. I’m in it for the long haul.

I’ve had lots of dicolouration with no gains. I just recently started doing tons of hot wraps and have had pretty much no discolouration at all. I also haven’t had any gains yet, but hopefully they will come.

How long have you been working at it Mick?

I’ve been on my new routine for about 3 weeks. I think I feel a little bit fatter, but I’m not sure yet. So far I have really only had a couple tiny little dots of discolouration which go away over night. I’m going to measure again in about 3 weeks. If you want, I can tell you if I gained anything or not when I measure.

Absolutely, might be nice for a couple of us to keep track of eachother for motivation…
