Posting Etiquette

Alright Gents,

It has been brought to my attention more than once that it is improper posting etiquette to ask questions on someone’s thread / progress thread. I am not sure why this is so. Why create a new thread? I also understand using the search feature 100%, but If I or someone else has a question for a certain member about their routine / technique / experience, why can’t they ask? Especially if the question is relevant PE. If the person asking the question was posting irrelevant things like “this one time at band camp…” or “so there I was…” I could understand that as being improper etiquette. I’ve read a many of posts on TP where members asks questions, the questions get answered and and I’ve seen members engage in casual conversations and friendly jabs back and forth on progress threads.

I ask in order to have a better understanding and help newbies like myself and those to come.

Please don’t reply to “bash” those for improper posting etiquette. Thank you in advance.

Outside of what is stated in the Forum Guildlines, we don’t enforce obscure notions of what is described as Forum Etiquette. If you have access to a forum and the thread is not locked, then it is available for you to post in. We value your opinions, questions and ideas. However, there is a time and a place for each of those. If you are curious about a basic routine, the best way to find that information is by using the “search” function at the top of the screen. Be guided by This Post by SS4Jelq.

If you can’t find the information you searched diligently for, then, by all means, create a NEW post titled appropriately for your question. This allows others who might also want to know the answer to observe the replies or enter into the appropriate discussion. It also opens up the question for many of our knowledgeable members to answer.

Though there are many definitions of forum etiquette, the most widely accepted view is the application of the Golden Rule. Treat others as you want to be treated. For instance, if you create a post to log your routine and upload pictures and people start posting about something that doesn’t apply to the subject matter then it derails the thread and is considered rude. Depending upon the intent, it can be a violation of our Forum Guidelines which state, “We ask at all times that members be considerate, courteous and respectful of other members.” However, it is not automatically assumed that members violate this rule so corrective guidance may be given at times by a moderator.

If you ask the poster a question that is outside the scope of the thread, it is their prerogative to answer you or to request that you either use the search function or create a new thread. It is their responsibility to maintain a fair and respectful attitude while making that request. This is what I deem to be considerate, courteous and respectful of other members or forum etiquette.

If you feel that you have been treated unfairly or, to use the term you prefer, “bashed”, then I am at your disposal as an administrator here at Thunder’s Place. Feel free to continue this discussion through PM.

Thanks,

How Lack
