Trying to pick a pump, help me out!

I’m in the UK, I’d love to get started with pumping but my budget is limited to probably 50 quid or less. Any chance you guys can give me some feedback on potential purchases? My stats are in my sig.

Cylinder size on this looks about right, though 2.4" diameter might be too big

Of all the ones you picked out, only the second one has a good pump, but since you are not ready for full package pumping, I guess that is out. If you can find that pump with a 2” cylinder, you are in.

Here is just what you need, but from the US and they do ship overseas. Look at pump package P134 from picturebrite: The cost is only $59 and even with shipping, it should be in your budget. Just pretend like you are ordering it and fill out the order form until they show you the total cost including shipping. Then you can decide whether you want it or not.

Thanks a lot. I’m a little ignorant on this subject, I’d always assumed pumping the balls might have unforeseen consequences (such as infertility). I’ll give that link a look, cheers!

edit: That place looks good, I’ll have to email them to find out about how one orders internationally and what the charges are, the site doesn’t seem too clear. My only concern about ordering internationally is the possibility of it being stopped/searched at customs, which might be a little embarrassing.

Don’t forget you will be faced with VAT at 17.5% from the U.S.(I’m not sure whether they also tax the postage).

Ahh the wonderful G. Brown has allowed us minions a 2.5% tax break.

However you will also get around a 8 quid charge for collecting the tax from you and probably have to pickup the item yourself from your local depot.

I emailed the site, they gave me the shipping price and said they ship to the UK often without problems. Hoping I don’t face too many customs-related problems, not really sure what I can do to minimize problems and make the shipping process smoother.

Making the shipping process smoother is up to the shipper, and they make it sound like they have a good track record. Go for it. How much is their shipping charge by the way?

How will the item be posted ? If its US airmail it’ll be passed onto the royal mail for delivery but they will pop a card through your door asking you to pick it up and pay the extra when you do so.

If its DHL or UPS they will call you or send you a letter asking you to pay the extra via card or some such prior to them delivering, but they don’t charge extra for the pleasure.

Or you may have the item skip customs and be delivered without issues or extra cost.

I’ve had every variation over the years for items ordered from the US and you just have to put up with it. I would far prefer an account that I could pay into for customs so the stuff just arrives without any messing but heyho.

gprent- how do you know that only the second one has a good pump? I’m also pretty ignorant on this subject but trying to read relevant threads.

I finally have the spare cash to order the pump actually, hopefully going to do so in the next month.

Ah brilliant, I’m from the UK as well so I’ll let you know if I find anything good! I started up a new thread asking for people in the UK with pumps to chime in but no replies yet…

I’m not from the UK but search for “Gunson vacuum pump” on ebay.co.uk. This is the same pump being sold in the US by Harbor Freight. The UK price is more expensive than the US price but it is cheaper on eBay than elsewhere.

You still have the issue of finding a cylinder and an adaptor for the quick disconnect coupler.
