pumping and l-arginine

I was wondering if using l-arginine after a pump session would help with a stronger erection for sex purposes. I find that after a good session in the tube (45 min- 1 hour) Im not as able to keep a good strong erection and by the time Im done maxing out my 2 inch tube my wife wants to use it. Anyone know if this will help keep it real hard?

I take L-a every day and have for about a year. Thing is, though, most guys report that it takes about a week of dosing for the L-arginine to really kick in and that was true for me, as well. It isn’t someting you just take every now and then.

Some take a lot more, but I do real well on 1 gram (two 500 mg tabs) three times a day on an empty stomach - the last one at bedtime - total 3 grams/day. It does help to increase rigidity (it is a precursor to nitric oxide, essential for erections) and might resolve your problem.

During the first week on L-a you may experience some flatulance or loose bowels :-( but that goes away as you adjust to the L-a.

Consider, too, that you might be overworking your cock during your sessions. My personal theory is, if I can’t end a session with a good erection, I’ve overdone something.

I have done some pumping in the past but that was befor this forum and I didnt know what I know now. I have to some extent got some foreskin back I am cut but I dont think I was cut that short to begin with. Now when I pump I wrap my glans and foreskin ( hate the donut effect) and I use a hot pack on the tube. This makes it possible for me to pack the tube but it still takes 45 min or so to do this. Should I be trying for a full pack each time I pump? I would love to maintain the packed size for longer periods aftr a session.

Like Avocet8, I take 1000mg of L-arginine a day, and can recommend it. You might want to look up “The Arginine Solution” by Robert Fried and Woodson Merrell (it’s a handy paperback that will tell you all you want to know about L-arginine). You might also try Maca, a herbal supplement which helps strengthen things in the way you want. But because Maca (unlike L-arginine) is a herbal product, you’ll need to cycle it — say, 3 weeks on 2 off, or whatever works best for you.

Redlight,

Interesting. Do you have a reference that Maca needs to be cycled??

As you know, Maca is indigenous to Peru and the Peruvians consider Maca a food. I can hardly imagine they are aware of the “cycling” concept.

I’ve been taking four gms/Maca/dy since March 6th and, the most quantifiable effect has been on my blood pressure (b/p). I was aware of this From this site http://ahealthya.com/peruvian_aphrodisiac.htm

“Historical or Traditional Use: Maca’s history as a powerful strength and stamina enhancer and libido-fertility herb stretches back well over five hundred years. Maca is a powerful adaptogen, which means it has the ability to balance and stabilize the body’s systems. Maca can raise low blood pressure and lower high blood pressure”

And I was able to validate when I went to G/P. For past couple of years my b/p has been approaching borderline:

12-20-02 146/88
3-6-03 Began 4 gms maca/dy
7-1-03 130/72
9-5-03 130/78
10-10-03 118/65
10-27-03 140/92

As can be seen my last b/p reading was elevated….I had been off Maca for a week. This suggests, that at least for me, for Maca to keep my b//p in a desirable range, I must take Maca daily.

Just my experiences…..

I have been taking L-arginine for about 8 months and I take up to 6 grams a day. I noticed a puffyness to my tool after a week or so. (Drink lots of water with this on an empty stomach) I also notice more prominent veins through out my entire body.

I just ordered some Jarrow 1000 mg caps. (Excellent deal) and I also ordered some L-ornithine. This is suppose to increase the effects of L-a. Has anyone tried that?

OR eon, greetings:

I’m all for sticking with what works for you, so if you are getting good results, that’s the main thing. I haven’t read much about Maca, but at one time I looked closely at the various ginseng families, and especially at Siberian ginseng, which is often also described as an adaptogen. There is a fair amount of advice (as I recall) about cycling in that literature. I admit I’m keen on cycling as a matter of principle, and I’m experimenting (under my doctor’s surveillance) with cycling testosterone, trying also to determine how different herbal and other substances might effect testosterone and estrogen levels as these are measured by saliva tests. There is some controversy about whether or not to cycle creatine monohydrate, but I cycle that too. My vitamin-shop guru suggests it’s a good idea to lay off the vitamins 2 days a week, as I do — another cycling routine there. The basic idea is that the body gets lazy, and luxuriates in the over-supply instead of having to work for what it wants. Might be all poppycock, but I’m interested to experiment with different routines. If you stay on Maca steadily, and then find the benefits diminishing so that you need to take more to get the same result, you might think about dycling then. Meanwhile, if you are doing well, that’s great. (Footnote: the fact that Peruvian Indians don’t know about cycling of course doesn’t mean that they might not benefit from it….that is, if there is any benefit to be had). With good wishes, Redlight.

OR eon:

Just a final thought. If you do find that over time the benefits of Maca are diminishing, you might consider cycling it with Siberian ginseng, which provides similar benefits for many people. Say, 3 months on Maca, 3 months on Sib. ginseng, or whatever works for you.

Redlight,

Thank you for your two thoughtful responses on Maca and cycling.

A member of http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Alt-S…-Impotence-ASI/ introduced us to Maca with this article http://health.discovery.com/centers…bido/maca.html.

I did my own Google search for Maca vendors and these two looked good. I always buy bulk when I can http://www.ahealthya.com/free_sample.htm
http://www.rain-tree.com/maca.htm so I ordered a kilo from the former and a pound from latter. The latter gives a thorough biochemical analysis of Maca and although I have neither, I learned remedies for premature ejaculation and anorgasm.

This site talks about Maca as an “adaptogen” and effect on blood pressure
http://ahealthya.com/peruvian_aphrodisiac.htm “Maca is a powerful adaptogen, which means it has the ability to balance and stabilize the body’s systems”.

After starting 4 gms Maca/dy, I felt my dick and nuts were hanging fuller…but this is a subjective evaluation; considering that I usually pump my dick daily and I may take 5 – 15 gms L-Arginine/dy…..it’s difficult to separate out as to what is doing what..

Coming from a scientific background I like some parameter that is quantifiable when possible.
When my b/p was 148/88 on 12-20-02 on 130/72 on 7-1-03, etc…that was very meaningful to me.
The observation that my b/p was 140/92 after being off Maca for a week was quite interesting. I will try replicating that and if I can, it would suggest that for maintaining b/p in desirable range, Maca must be taken regularly.

At one of the sites above I think I read about Maca’s ability to balance sex hormones in both women and men. Probably this is not applicable to me since I’ve been on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) since Feb ’99, and I like keeping my T levels 800 – 900. After being on TRT for sometime, it’s not uncommon to have T > E conversion which I had so Aug ’01 I began 1 mg Arimidex/dy to managed my Es.

Concerning Ginseng, I’ve bought Red Panax and Siberian Ginseng and have taken it sporadically; I’ve just did a Google search on vendors of whole herb and there are several vendors….perhaps I will revisit Ginseng at your recommendation.

Question….what Ginseng do you use. How much do you consume a day.

What parameters can you monitor subjectively and/or quantifiably?

Thanks,

OR eon

P.S. Undoubtedly age may play a role in responses to Maca….i’m 65 yo.

OR eon, greetings:

Many thanks for the helpful information on Maca. I’m cycling Maca with Avena Sativa at the moment, and haven’t used Siberian ginseng for quite a while. The thing to look out for is standardization (as with Saw Palmetto, for instance — the crushed-up roots by themselves aren’t much good). Also, Siberian ginseng isn’t a true ginseng, and needs a bit of study separately from the other ginsengs. A handy little booklet by Betty Kamen, entitled “Siberian Ginseng. Up-To Date-Research on the Fabled Oriental Herb” (New Caanan, Connecticut: Keats Publishing, 1988), is a good (enough) place to start.

I’m entirely with you on the question of objective measurement and the establishment of sound reference ranges, so your data on blood pressure are immensely reassuring, and you seem really to have found the key with Maca. My only concern, as I’ve said, is that the efficacy dwindles over time and constant use. You’ll know how, in weight training, it is important to keep changing the exercise programme in order to hit the muscles from different directions — otherwise, the darned muscles just get used to the same old routine, and development falls off rapidly. It seems to me likely that the same principle applies with supplementation, and it might be a good idea to find a backup so that you can get the best results if your body becomes too accustomed to the Maca . On the other hand, if your blood pressure stays down, no need to do anything different. Stick with what works.

I’m glad to hear you are taking Arimidex with your testosterone to block the estrogen. I’m taking 0.25mg daily (during my on cycle), but I have not encountered anyone else — until now — who is also doing this. So it’s nice to share the information.

I’m mainly interested in testosterone-estrogen balance, and use saliva tests to determine that. I’m experimenting with Maca, Avena Sativa, DIM, a natural testosterone-booster stack called Testostrogain, Arimidex, and Clomid to see what differences these things might make, both on the off and on cycles. Of course, the trial periods, measurements, and so on have to be worked out systematically over a considerable period of time if the results are going to mean anything. So it has become a kind of hobby, based also on the notion that men don’t get much good advice on these matters. One day I hope to write it all up (if I don’t explode first). At 65, you have three years on me, but at our age, the difference between 62 and 65 is practically nothing. With good wishes, Redlight.

This thread is interesting to me because I started taking maca over the summer for weightlifting.

One thing I noticed is that most of the online references quoted dosages like “1g” or “4g”. I think 5g was the largest dose I ever saw. I took it at 5g a day (with my postworkout protein shake) for a few weeks but never saw any real difference. Then, for whatever reason (frustration, “I’m a moron”, etc.) one day I took a whole heaping tablespoon. I noticed a difference the very next day.

I wasn’t taking it for PE, and I don’t recall having erections any more often. I do recall thinking that my erections were firmer, but that might have been my imagination. But the first and biggest thing I noticed was that my loads became much larger. So at the very least the stuff gives ya a better “feeling” orgasm because you get this great big squirt.

Also, I’m 30 so we can push maca’s “age of effect” a little lower than 65. But maybe my slightly younger age was the reason I had to take so much more?

Anyway, I quit working out in September (too busy) and so I quit taking the maca. Still got a big tin of the stuff in fridge… think I’ll start taking it again for PE. Thanks for the reminder, guys.

About how many capsules or grams do you estimate that
heaping tablespoon was equivalent to?

bustedbus;

Maca is highly variable in its effect, depending on individual body chemistry. 1 gram/day might work for some, others may need more. A good idea I think to ramp up, rather than down. Start with a small amount, give that a week, then increase to two grams and so on until one find’s one’s level. I’ve looked and haven’t found any negative side affects to Maca except that some guys get an upset stomach on it. That never happened for me. As OR eon has pointed out for him, my b/p is also down since I started taking it.

I also take L-a. I could not tell you if it is the Maca or the L-a, or both, but seminal fluid volume is way higher than when I took neither. I agree that orgasms are better (they were good before for me, too) but because they last longer, since it takes longer now to ejaculate.

There are also several members at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Alt-S…-Impotence-ASI/ that have reported their b/p moving to desirable range after beginning Maca.

OR eon

I’m taking 2 tsp of Maca, which RainTree says is 5.5 gm, and 6 gm of arginine, per day.

I’m doing this for the BP effect, which I hope will be there at some point, but have also noticed a big increase in ejaculate volume. I didn’t get that on arginine alone, or any BP lowering on arginine alone - all over almost 6 months on it. Well, maybe the arginine made a little difference in volume, but nothing like what I’m getting now. It’s just downright messy.

But I’m also wearing the Homedics strap a lot, and I’ve always wondered if constant stimulation of the testicles like that might also increase the load.

Even if I get no BP lowering, I think I’ll continue to take that combination, although probably in lower amounts. I figure six weeks should tell the story on BP.
