Plastic Mityvac pump handle just snapped in half

Plastic Mityvac pump handle just snapped in half

Just finishing up a set pumping and the handle snaps right above the pivot point.

Has anyone else had this happen? I’ve always tried to be careful with it.

Also, should I try to find a replacement part(looks like an easy fix). Or buy a new one, possibly the harbor freight one?

It happened to me about a year and a half ago.

Look here and the remaining posts in the thread for what to do about it.

B - I’ve wondered about that when I pump hard and fast. All-in-all, I’ve been impressed with the quality of my plastic MityMac. From now on, I’ll take it easy on the handle. MC

Buy the harbor freight one. It’s inexpensive and longer lasting. I had two mityvacs break on me in the past.

Yeah. The handle of the pump I had, which came with a Dr. Kaplan kit and may or may not be the same actual manufacture as yours, broke after about a month. I jury-rigged a fix, but after about another month something else went wrong and it stopped producing a good vacuum. At that point, I figured that plastic pumps just weren’t up to long-term use, and bought a metal pump with a gauge. I thought that the plastic pump was a worthwhile minimal initial investment, but once I’d decided that I wanted to keep up with pumping more seriously, something longer-lasting was in order. Others might have had better experiences with better quality plastic pumps.

I haven’t done anything about this yet. How is the harbor freight one compared to the mityvac(as in vacuum per stroke). Do you have to pump it more or less? It appeared to me like the mityvac was better, aside from being plastic, just based on looks.

Also for anyone else looking to replace the handle, the part# is 822386 and the website is A & A Hydraulic.
Price is $1.15, shipping seems a little steep though at $8.50.

They both work the same in terms of creating vacuum pressure.
