Need help with pump

Need help with pump

Hello, I am in Canada and unfortunately the only Pump system that I was able to find that seemed to be Quality was Dr. Joel Kaplan. After using it for 1 month the Pump (made out of plastic) Hinge which you squeeze at to create pressure broke. It cost me 160 dollars to buy… I see now the quality is absolutely horrible.

Where can i go to purchase a quality pump? I’ve been thinking of checking out Canadian Tire?

This being said I have tried Water Pumping using my mouth. It feels great to be honest, but I’m a bit worried about regulating how much pressure I am using. Sigh* This feels like a Panic post as my Pump has just broke.

Do you guys recommend I continue water pumping using my mouth? There seems to be a debate about this topic. Can I continue Avocets recommended routine with water pumping (I am at 20 minutes and 10 minutes, can I essentially over the next few weeks work my way up to 3 sets of 20 with water pumping?)

Thanks for any input. I’m gonna continue reading about water pumping in the forum in the meantime.

A really good bet for a quality, inexpensive pump is Harbor Freight. It’s made for bleeding auto brakes. If you’re somewhat handy you can probably repair your handle with some super glue and some strips of plastic to reinforce the handle where it broke. I’m speaking from experience here, since the plastic handles always break. You might be able to fix it for a stop-gap until your new Harbor Freight brass pump comes in the mail. Good luck!!

I can only recommend Vacu-Tech when it comes to pumps. You pay a tad more, yes, but the quality is unmatched. And they ship to Canada too, as their website states.

Don’t waste money on cheap imitations like Dr. Joel. You end up losing in the long run. :(

For a good quality brass air pump with a gauge this link may work: Harbor Freight Brake Bleeder . This is the same pump that LA Pumps sells for quite a bit more, but let’s face it, we’re in a recession. Why pay more?

You should be able to cannibalize the plastic hose and tube connector from your Kaplan.

This sort of pump cannot be used with water, but it is a useful tool for you to familiarize yourself with a safe level of pressure.

Once you get the feel of what that is you can switch to water pumping. For that you will need something like this: Boston Pump Works Brass Pump .

Again you will likely to need to cannibalize the tube connector as some of them are different from others. I can’t remember if Kaplan and Boston use compatible connectors. I don’t think they do. LA Pumps and Boston Pumps are compatible, though.

Remove the rubber hose from Harbor Freight Pump; then just cut the hose at the Kaplan Pump connector and slide it on the Harbor Freight Pump. You’ll only loose about 1” of plastic hose. Soak the Plastic hose in hot water before sliding onto the Harbor Freight Pump and you’re in business. I’d send that Kaplan Pump back. Over the years this same problem has happened many times as the pump is a poor design. Those Harbor Freight Pumps are the same pumps on the LA Pumps.

I got mine from nawtythings it was 54 bucks. All the other sites the same one was over 100. For the same pump.

I’d say $19.99 + $7.99 for shipping and handling is about the best price I’ve found for a pump with a gauge, which is what beginning pumpers really should be using.

For a pump that one can use with water I haven’t found anything cheaper than the Boston Pump Works Brass Pump model, at $47.50 + $10.95 for shipping if bought directly off their website.

Out of curiosity I checked out the Nawty Things website. I found that they carry Boston Pumps and Cyberskin penis pumps.

Their price for the Boston Pump brass model (wet/dry) was $ 48.95 + $11.95 shipping - pump by itself. They also sell various packages, but The Boston Pump Works site is cheaper for all their product line.

Which pump did you get thal?

Thank you for all the help. I’ve been looking into the recommendations and they all seem solid. A bit worried about the shipping due to the fact I live with my family; my mom and dad open all the mail that comes into the house regardless of who its for.

On Another note, in the meantime I started water pumping, the cylinder i have locks air in once i remove the hose. I’m using my mouth to suck the air out and create adequate pressure. So far I must say that I feel like pumping with water is giving me a much better feeling, I’m coming out must bigger and fatter.

Anyways that does not seem to fit well in this thread, but I am gonna try water pumping until I get a new pump than I am gonna change between the two (maybe air pumping 1 day, water pumping another?) not sure yet.

I finally fixed my pump using some Super Glue. The real tough expensive kind. I have started using my pump with water (not letting the water reach the pump of course). What I was curious about is the gauge for a regular air pump correct when water is involved? For some reason with water, by the time I hit 5 HG it feels like a lot more pressure than with air :S. Just worried I might be overworking.

The Harbor Freight pump is sold in Canada by Princess Auto, if you live in an urban area there is probably one nearby. They also do mailorder. The brand name on it is power fist.

I’m no physicist, But I think it’s to do with air being compressible and water is incompressible, So there is a certain give when creating a part vacuum with air. but no give with water. So it would be wise to lower the compression when watering it :)

Hope that makes sense.
