mityvac-help needed

The gauge on mityvac goes up to 30in Hg, normal operating 23-25Hg. What would be a good reading to start a session. Received the pump today from tooldesk.com.

All suggestions and any other members expience with mityvac much appreciated

I’d start out at 2-3” Hg.
I normally pump at 4” with very brief periods at 5 on occaisions. But I still start a session at 3 and build quickly to 4.

I bruise at anything 6” and above, it’s not obvious at first so go up in pressure slowly.

I think the Kaplan instructions suggested 10” but this is way too much,
size and pump was huge but bruising appeared on the underside and it looked bad, so don’t try anything near above 5” unless you have some experience.

Read AVOCET8’s advice in the pumper’s forum. He gives a good beginner’s program for pumping.

Also, DO NOT forget your WARM UP and WARM DOWN. They will go a long way to make you ready for the pump and keep you from bruising afterward.

VacuTech advises that you never exceed 7 Hg. They also say that the best results can be had by pumping between 4 and 6 Hg. This jives with the advice given by almost every pumper on this board, almost none of whom ever exceed 4 - 6 Hg.

Gee, I wonder where they came up with those numbers??? :D
