MityVac handle crack/break

Guys,

Well, the plastic handle on my third Mityvac pump/gauge just cracked yesterday for no reason rendering it useless. Has anyone else had problems with the cracking on the handle of the Mityvac pump/gauge or any other area of the device? This is my third Mityvac and was purchased less than three months ago. I really don’t need a pump/gauge, since mouth suction power has worked fine for me for almost 2 years, but I purchased this one solely for the purpose of my being able to accurately measure my pumping pressure and respond to Pumper Forum questions on pressure recommendations.

I previously owned two other mityvac pump/gauges since mid 2001, and both cracked suddenly near the upper exit point of the handle and this time right in the middle of the handle. And NO I wasn’t doing anything unusual.

I don’t know if I’ll purchase another pump/gauge soon, but if I do it won’t be the plastic Mityvac version but probably some kind of metal constructed product.
Anyone have similar problems?

If you do, seriously consider the lapdist brass pump with gauge and vinel coated metal handles. My pump is over 3 years, maybe 4, and it works like new. I know you know the site, but it provides a nice pic of the pump, just in case:

I have only had my pump for a little over a week now and I am really enjoying it and the feeling from the very little use.
I pump only in the morning while in the shower.

But here is the link to their web:

You should be able to order replacement parts directly from them as they are located in St. Louis.

Shit fire all to hell. I will be going to St. Louis next week. I think I will stop in and see if they have spare parts available to take home with me. As I have the plastic pump too and wouldn’t want to be with out a pump.
Maybe even buy me a Silverline pump with a maintenance kit for repairs.

Good luck,

JonathonB

peforeal,

I just got off the phone with Lincoln Industrial that supplies the pumps to distributors.
The handle kit P/N is 822386 at a list price of $1.03. they have distributors across the US.

Hope this helps,

JonathonB

peforeal,

Have you considered contacting the Mityvac manufacturer and asking about a replacement? Certainly they must be aware of this problem. It sounds like a design defect. I had a similar situation with a plastic fitting on a marine head and the manufacturer went overboard (no pun intended) to correct the problem even though it was out of warranty.

ps: Makes me glad I chose the LAP Dist metal pump I bought a week ago.

Move a little closer, Honey.

I've got a big prick for you.

Where at in St Louis are they located at? I had no idea a penis pump manufacturer was located in my backyard!

I know it sounds crazy to use such old fashion methods, but try your local phone book business pages.

Damn that hurts gprent101! I forgot about ponebooks, I’ll hit switchboard up instead!

Well, they are not actually located in St. Louis. The main distributor is. I called them, but they do not sell to the public. But was very friendly about giving me information as to where the nearest retail seller was.
Or you can go to your local auto parts store and buy a brake bleeding kit, Like I did and use the MityVac that comes with the kit. ($39.00 and change at Schucks). They had both the plastic and metal pumps.
The metal did cost more, also they are at your local Sears store.

gprent101,

Thanks. If I do purchase another pump with gauge, I’ll be going with the lapdist version. Avocet8 has also used this brand through all of his pumping years without any problems.

Johnathonb and Vegasguy,

Thanks also for your input. I’ll check in with the Mityvac company and express my concerns with their product, and see what options they may provide.

Yea I know this is an old thread but, it’s new to me. :D

Anywho, the handle on my mityvac just broke. :(
I looked on their site and found a link for here .
The part number is the same as the one Jonathonb listed though the price went up $0.03, ain’t inflation a bitch. ;)
I ordered five so I’d be ready for the next time one breaks.
I’ll be sure to let everyone know how long delivery is.

I’m thinking of writing Mityvac, but want to know if anyone else did (peforeal), and if they did anything or just said "Go here and buy a new one."

I really wanted to buy a silverline off of ebay but I don’t want one that is all greasy and I didn’t want to spend that much.

mg456,

I never followed up on repairing my mityvac pump/gauge. I’ve just gone back to using my own mouth power to create the vacuum, and all has been well.

Ok then, I probably won’t contact mityvac directly. I have a feeling they’ll won’t send me a free replacement. If I happen to change my mind I’ll let everyone know.

I’d be interested to see how well they’ll stand by their product and assist you in making repairs.
