Is this a decent first pump?

Looking to start pumping and not sure what pump to buy, is this a good choice?

Well, gainer, There’s not a whole lot of info on that device available, but my initial reaction would be, No, it doesn’t appear to be a really “high-end” pump, no matter what the “customer reviews” say. I’m not very optimistic that that pump is going to be very reliable, and the cylinder is probably none too sturdy. Generally speaking, if it’s categorized as a “sex-toy”, it’s probably built accordingly…like a toy.

Thanks clgp7, any suggestions of a decent pump a reasonable price? I just dont want to jump in and buy a peice of junk.

Most common suggestion for a pump is the one from Harbor Freight: Lap pump = harbor freight tools pump

I personally have experience only with Mityvac MV8000 and I can say all the best about it so far.

As for cylinder, people usually recommend LA pump, VelSeal and such, but since those are in US and your location is Wales, I think you can’t go wrong with Thickwall (located in UK and excellent quality/prices).

Thanks UpTo7, I may have to purchase a starter kit from Thickwall then, although I was hopeing it would be a little cheaper.

Try to get the pump elsewhere because stores that sell cylinders are usually dirty expensive when it comes to pumps. It’s a regular pump for brake bleeding and it can be bought in most automotive part stores.

I had one EXACTLY like that. The plastic is ok, but it’s way too wide, you’ll need to use a silicone doughnut and replace the original one very soon (the original one broke within 3 weeks here). I had to buy one from ebay.

Second, the gauge is on the cylinder, makes it heavy and sometimes difficult to check.

I recommend you getting a THICKWALL cylinder (the RIGHT size for you, it’s very very important) with a pump with a gauge. You won’t have to wear a doughnut, it’s very sturdy, easy to clean, you can buy additional cylinders in time, has replaceable parts… Now I have a thickwall cylinder, a mustang cylinder (not as good as the thickwall) and a simple pump with a gauge, and it’s much better than before. I’m actually thinking about trashing the old “toy” pump.
