Good lube for water pumping ?

I’m looking for a nice thick lube for water pumping with my regular cylinder, something that’ll stay slippery for 30-40 mins but will clean up ok and wont damage the tube.

I’ve been using water based lubes but they’re all a bit thin and dry out too easily, maybe a silicone based one ?

Ideally something that’s easily available.

Any suggestions welcome.

Not sure what others think but something that I have used is hair conditioner.

I water pump in my air pumps and I use coconut oil and sometimes olive oil.

Have you tried coconut oil? It’s not that thick but it do wonders..

Hair conditioner works great, but gives me a rash…so I can’t use it.

I have never tried an oil before. But there was conditioner in the tub so I gave it a try. It doesn’t come off easy in water. But also the oils previously mentioned are good for your skin as stated.

Yes, coconut oil is the one who is very healthy to the skin and many other things..
After session it’s no need to clean the oil up, just leave it there, becouse you know it just do good..
I love it and it’s the only oil I use :-)

As guys have mentioned, oils can begin to break down some PE equipment. However, most cylinders are of the type of plastic that is fine with it, the hoses should be fine too. Maybe the little O rings on the connectors can slowly suffer, but most are nitrile and pretty tough. If you have to ever replace them, its pretty cheap and easy.

So, go ahead and use oils, but use it very sparingly!

Never thought of that sparkyx. I have a Long Johnny from years ago that started to get some discoloration on the STJ Precision Seal that came with it. Probably the cause!

Glyde is the best.

is Glyde silicone based? My only problem with those are the cost!

Does coconut fat/oil do any harm to the pump seals?

Glyde is not silicone based and is the best I have ever used.

It shouldn’t. The main worry is petroleum based lubricants such as Vaseline, baby oil etc that break down latex, and other petroleum based seals.
