Days Off From Pumping?

Is taking rest days from pumping beneficial? I have pumped about the past month straight everyday without any problems.

Is this a bad idea?

I also tend to get on a non-stop roll and hate to take a break, but every time I do finally take a day off, I am rewarded with better results. So whether I end up taking a day off after 6 days or 10 or 14 or whatever, the rest day always turns out to be beneficial.

Always make sure that on your return day following your rest day that you pump up nice and slow. In general, I always spend a few minutes at lower levels before reaching my target pressure. So if my target is 7, I first let things equalize at 4” hg, then 5, then 6.

I might even do 2 days of pumping/jelqing with 1 day of 10 minutes of light jelqing. Or is that not frequent enough? I just feel like my flaccid size has been awful lately.

One of the signs of overpumping and that you need a break is compromised flaccid size. Take a few days off, and when you return to pumping you’ll see how much better your dick responds. You can continue to jelq on those rest days for enhancing good circulation.

You can probably go back to your regular routine maybe 3 - 4 ten minute pump sets with breaks, but be sure to keep the vacuum pressure mostly between 3 - 5” hg. See how your dick responds and go from there. At anytime you notice your dick not responding effectively to pumping or you experience flaccid “shrinky dick” from pumping, it’s time for another break.

Okay peforeal thanks, I really appreciate it. I think its better for me to just put rest days in my routine instead of trying to go all the time without them. I am thinking maybe 3 days of pumping then 1 day of jelqing?

Way back when Tom Hubbard started it all, advise was to take two (2) off and doing nothing except to pee. I’ve stuck to that and never looked back. Avocet8 recommends rest time for the microtears to heal thus giving permanent growth. Yea, gprent a rest day means rest. Jelqing is in my thoughts—Work—Steve

So do you “work up the pressure” like that every session? Interesting idea.

I don’t know if I could do that. I started at 3½ inches hg a few months ago, 5” hg was just too much and it started to hurt within a minute if I didn’t turn it down. Now I am at 4”hg doing 3 eight minute sessions. It makes a little bit of a donut at that time length, so I might kick it down to 6 or 7 minute sessions. It isn’t painful but it gives me little “twinges” once in a while that let me know it’s tugging! This seems to be my “safe” upper limit, give good morning wood and PE growth.

I don’t know if I could ever do high pressure like that ( 5-7 seems high to me at least :) ), maybe for the last minute or two on the last session. Does it do anything for you, speed up growth or anything that you have noticed? I’m also curious: what do you mean by “letting things equalize?”

Sometimes I wonder if some of these vacuum gauges are calibrated the same or provide accurate readings. Just out of curiosity, what kind of pump do you have? Mine is from lapdist.

What I mean be equalize is just let your cock stabilize or get used to a pressure before moving higher. I used to pump completely opposite from this and it caused me a lot of discoloration problems. I would pump up quite rapidly to my target pressure of say 7 or 8 and this turned out to be too rapid a pressure change for my capillaries to handle and I got spotting and bruising.

What I do now, is pump up very slowly and my discoloration has disappeared and I get much better results. I will pump for 30 minutes without a break, but I spend the first 5 minutes at 4” hg, then 5 minutes at 5” hg, 5 minutes at 6” hg and the remainder of the time at 7” hg.

I am always doing something while I pump, either kegeling or milking the tube and the tube is always wrapped in an electric heat pad.

I end up packing my 2” tube and after pumping, I finish with 5-10 minutes of girth blaster jelqs and then perhaps put on a cock ring for further massage.

This by the way, is what I would call an advanced routine and is not for newbies.

My gauge is a stainless steel, liquid filled, indutrial grade one. Basically there is a “comsumer grade” a “commercial grade” (better) and industrial grade (built like a tank) if my info was correct. So (weird me that I am) I found an industrial supply house and spent like 30 dollars on a gauge. They were normally about 45 dollars, but he had some on sale so I got one of those. I decided “hey, why blow my dick up, because I got a cheap gauge that sticks or I’m too cheap to spend an extra 20 or 30 bucks?” Since it’s liquid filled, it seals up with a little rubber cap on top so it won’t leak. It will move from day to day as a result, as the atmospheric pressure changes. So every day before I pump, I pop the little cap off to vent it, it zeroes itself out and I put the cap back on and start pumping. There’s a picture of it in another thread:

The needle has never stuck, it zeroes itself out every day, so I don’t think it’s a problem.

My first experience pumping was like this: 5” hg hurt! I got everything out and tried the pump for the first time, putting it on 5” hg. Within a minute it was literally beginning to hurt and I yanked it off. I think my timer got to about 30 seconds and it was a little uncomfortable, more so at 45 seconds, and by the time it got to 55 seconds I was literally grabbing the tube to get it off; I could see it was just progressing into pain and was going to be too much at the time.

After that, I played around with varying pressures that night, 2, 3 and 4” hg. I decided to settle on 3” at first, and did that for the first week or two. Then I kicked it up to 3½ from then on. I was getting good “tingle” feelings or “twinges” but not pain (hard to describe, but maybe you know what I mean) for about the next three weeks, then they tapered off and disappeared. I gained 1/4 inch that first month (Jaunuary). Since then I’ve kinda slacked off: didn’t pump at all the next month ( February, but interestingly I didn’t lost any of what I had gained the month before), and the last two months it’s only been about half the days out of the month. I started up again about two weeks ago. I gained 1/16 inch in March, just pumping half the time I should have. It looks like April’s results will be about the same. I am back on track now, and two weeks ago I kicked it up to 4” hg. The “tingle” feelings are back (but not pain) because of it. (I think it’s a good indicator of growth, for me at least, but I don’t want to say that it’s “for sure” yet.)

I have noticed that it starts donutting at 4” hg, if my sessions are longer than 8 or 10 minutes, so that’s why I do the 3 eight minute sessions (unless I want to get into condom pumping.) I haven’t been using the infrared heat either, and it still grows anyway. So that’s my experience so far, if anything can be gathered from that. I did get a little bit of a thrombosed vein back in March when I started up again, but it went away quickly.

Basically I’m just following pumping 101, and avoiding those little temptations to start doing marathon sessions or “crank the pressure up.” I figure slowly I might be able to increase the pressure more. Maybe in a year I can make it to 5” hg. No hurry on that.

I’ve been expirimenting with my own routine. For several (three out of six) days my penis has been tingling with what could be described as pin pricks. After a rest of 24 hours, things seem to be back in order and I have started back on again with a slight gain in in-tube length.

Now I remember that most excellent pump of yours. I have a feeling that right or wrong, there is a difference between what your gauge reads and what my gauge reads at the same vacuum, and who knows which is right. The main thing is that you know how you react to each pressure you set.

I guess my point remains the same. If it is not too difficult with your set up, instead of pumping right to your target pressure, try starting at 2” hg for 5 minutes, then 3” hg for 5 minutes and then 4” hg for 5 minutes for a 15 minute nonstop total, just to see if there is a difference in how it feels and the appearance of your donut.

You may find that by doing this step up pressure technique, you get a reduction in the donut and perhaps can even tolerate your next step up to 5” hg.

Yeah, pin pricks describes it well too. Sometimes I feel it during pumping, but usually it’s just a random tingle every hour or two throughout the day.

I’ll have to try that, slowly working the pressure up and see what happens. Actually it was December I grew, then slacked off totally in January and February, but anyway… :)
