Caulk - Quick Release

Caulk - Quick Release

hey Guys.

I recently cleaned out a Caulk tube, and am trying to figure out some way to attach a disconnect valve like on standard cylinders.

My only thoughts up till now are cut a small hole and glue it in..

Any advice on the glue for air seal or even info about creating a thread would be greatly appreciated!

It may be best to put a rubber tube in the hole and screw the valve into that. - Use water as lubricant.

I haven’t tried that; although I did make my first tube from a caulk tube and pushed a rubber tube into the nozzle hole and sucked on it for the vacuum. So it might be the way to go, as screwing into the plastic might split it. Whereas the rubber tube wolud compress and give a better seal.

Hope that helps.

petit,

That actually helps a lot! Screwing in the female coupler into the tube seals perfectly, now I just have to glue a small splice of tube into the nozzle.

So, firstwish, what’s the theory on the caulk tube? Just looking to add a different size tube to your collection?

Lampwick,

It’s for my stealth pump around the house thing (down the pant leg). My girlfriend doesn’t mind me pumping around the house, but I can’t walk around with a cylinder sticking straight out because of roomates. The walls of the caulk tube are so thin, it is less likely to create a bulge then a standard cylinder. It is a little small though, and get’s packed within half an hour, so I’d like to find a bigger (maybe 2”) caulk tube.

Tech follow up:
I found that the female coupler screwed into the end of a hose / tube didn’t actually seal well. Instead, I cut back the nozzle of the caulk tube little by little and held the female coupler against it. When the size was right, I firmly
screwed the female coupler directly into the plastic. The plastic is soft enough, that it actually molds to form a thread. I’ve been wearing it for the last 10 minutes and it’s air tight.

Wrap the threads with teflon tape too.

You might need to put something like insulating tape round the base, as it can cut in your skin there after a while.

If it was me I’d use a regular cylinder and a big reallly baggy pair of pants. That caulk tube sounds like it could hurt.

I don’t know, isn’t the tube a little smallish girth wise?

It would be for you, TheBigLurk. It’s not for firstwish. These things aren’t one-size-fits-all.
