Where to buy tubing for homemade Bib

Guys in various places around the world sometimes report trouble finding the thick-walled, clear (or with braids), somewhat flexible tubing needed to make a homemade Bib per these instructions.

Here in the US, I got my 1 1/2” inside diameter tubing at a small local hardware store. It was on a roll and sold by the inch.

If you had a hard time locating this stuff and finally found it, where? And where do you live?

Does someone from England know? Here we dont have a Home depot, True Value or Menards etc.. So help would be appreciated.

Not sure if you managed to get any tube. I am in the UK and made mine from 1.5” waste pipe obtained from my local plumbers merchant. It is also available from B&Q, or Homebase, Wikes etc. Best of luck.

They have Homebases’ over there? I havent seen a Homebase in years!

Yeah. Thats the one I found also. The rigid waste pipe was very uncomfortable for me though ( I believe thats the one you mean right?). I want to try the flexible pvc that Hobby is suggesting.

I’ll check the local stores again. I just don’t want to ask a sales clerk for help. They might get to nosey and ask me what its for… And I’m a horrible liar. heh heh Thanks.

I thought of a good excuse for buying tubing and band clamps incase they asked why i needed it (felt kinda odd asking for help).

Just told the guy i had a small sapling tree that had been broken and needed something to clamp the trunk till it mended.

Sounds like a stupid thing to get worried about i guess, but i was and i had put off going to the hardware store at first cos i thought theyd keep asking what i needed it for to better help me so i came up with that excuse before heading out.

Im in UK as well and as far as i have seen Homebase is really crap for stocking anything usefull i only found 2 different bandclamp sizes and could not find any pvc piping had to settle for a multipack of pipe insulation which turned out to be not very good for hanging. The insulation doesnt distrubte the pressure so you end up getting a reduced noose effect and its not very good at gripping the skin and you get alot of slippage.

Gonna check a small hardware store but figured if homebase didnt have it they would not either.

Yeah its the rigid stuff, and yes it does get uncomfortable after obout ten minutes. To help I do wrap and pad with some foam. I read somewhere suggesting swimming_pool, but probably not too many of those outlets in the UK. If you are successful would appretiate knowing your source.

I actually gave up on the homemade bib for now. Since I’m only hanging SD I’m using the afb hanger made from a wooden ruler. ( found on the Tom Hubbard site) So far this is VERY comfortable for me. I use a baby sock and about 6 to 7 laps of self adhesive ace bandage for a wrap. (I hang 20 min sets)

As for the home made bib; I was thinking about going to a pet store to see if they had one that size for aqarium use. (Did you try that yet?)
And your right. There’s not many pool accessory places around here. But I’ll keep an eye out and let you know.

You could be onto something here. I just logged onto and they list 1 1/4” hose for aquarium pumps. However it is sold in 10M roles. Which leads me to think that the local garden center may have it on the role, and sold by the meter…. Just may have to make inquiries at the local garden center. BTW they do 2” just in case the 1 1/4” is too small!
