As SS4 said, if they are fully meshed to begin with, you can’t tighten anymore during the set if you need to.

OK so this new wrap is an improvement, but not all the way there. It sounds like the tightness is fine. Did you try changing the hex nuts too?

If it is residual, you might have a slight bruise or something. If you get the pain everytime you try a hanging set, you have no option but to take a few days off to let it heal. What I am thinking is, you might get the settings right but think they are wrong because they trigger the pain.

Because when you put the weights on the hanger, it restricts blood flow even more, because as they are being stetched out, they get thinner. So you might well be able to sit with your hanger on for a while, but not for a hanging set.

Alright SS4, check this out.

That last post? Pre-emptive at best. I went back and tried a few more sets at the same exact settings. Same old, same old, same old. Purple head, dropped temperature. This weekend’s experiments are going to revolve around thin layers of the bandage material coupled with theraband.

The new wrapping setup is that same strip of bandage, plus 15” of theraband. Puts me at a flaccid girth of 4.5” (Is there a chart somewhere that says what hex nuts should roughly be at for x amount of girth?)

That pain on the sides of my shaft? It was actually bruising from a t-shirt strip of wrap. Cute, huh? Huh?

When things seem to be at their worst, as though all hope is gone, that’s when something’s about to give. Or somesuch nonsense. Keeps me going anyways.

I apologize for the delay in answering your question. I have had a family member in the hospital very seriously ill for the last 3 weeks.

I have tried a new wrapping (for me) technique and it seems to be MUCH better than anything I have ever used. I use a piece of soft cotton t-shirt material 2 inches wide and long enough to circle my unit just one time with just a tad more to tape it on. Next I apply a 2 inch x 18-20 inch piece of self adhesive bandage from about a 1/2 inch below the head and spiral down ward. The theraband did not work for me at all. With this new wrapping i forget i have the hanger on. I forgot to mention that it is pretty snug, tight but not overly tight. Loose wrap seemed to make the purple color worse. I do not under why this works but for now it is working so i’m sticking with it. There is still a little coolness in the glans but nothing like before. Good luck bro!~

If this problem stems from the hanger sliding down and cutting off circulation from putting too much pressure on the head, there are a few things I found helpful:

First, while we should be completely flaccid when hanging, it helps to have some blood in the flaccid shaft and the head. Not much. This is hard to describe, and hasn’t been discussed in a long time. IIRC, Bib said that before attaching he would wrap, allow pressure to build in front of the wrap, then pull the wrap forward to relieve the pressure. This leaves more blood in the chambers than if you attach “cold” for lack of a better term. I’ve found I get the same effect by manually stretching or lightly jelqing for a few minutes before I wrap. If I don’t do this, the shaft doesn’t have any “meatiness” to it for the hanger to grab, and it will want to slide forward.

Second, try attaching far enough back so when the hanger moves forward when weight is applied the tissue will bunch in front of it. There is a huge difference between attaching right behind the head to start with and having the hanger settle there. In the first case, there will be a lot of pressure on the head. In the second, even though the hanger settles into what looks like the same position, it is actually riding mostly on the “bunched” shaft tissue, not the head itself.

Third, and very important, tighten in stages. Put the hanger on, tighten the wingnut until there is (very) slight discomfort, and wait a minute or two. The shaft will settle into the hanger, making it loose again. Tighten some more. Repeat this tightening several times, even after applying the weight.

As far as the advice goes, I’m going to try it out tomorrow. I remember toying around with “tight” wrap a while back and having OK results with it. Definitely worth a second look.

Great tips, bro. Especially that third set. Antistar has a bad, bad habit of tightening real quick and then letting the pendulum swing.

Hobby, you basically summed up exactly how I hang in all 3 steps. I use the head as an anchor for holding the weight, with some engorgement in the head. I have nothing else to add, you summed it up great.

Yep. Brought them in so that the top(closest to me) is open one full turn…a bit less than 1/16 of an inch between the hex and the DO NOT ADJUST hex. The bottom (closest to glans) is open 5/6 of a turn more than that. It’s about 1/8” gap there.

My wrapped girth is at 4.25 - 4.275 inches.

You might want to increase that wrapped flaccid girth to 4.5 or thereabout. It will give you a little more leeway in your adjustments.

EDIT: Actually lately I’ve been hanging with the teeth tight once that weight gets on there. If I do a good 5 minute hotwrap before I drop the weight and reach down to give my glans a firm, yet gentle squeeze every five minutes then it stays pretty close to normal color throughout the set. Is it ok to run with these little workarounds?

They will be let out just a bit more. It will give you more adjustment room.

See, if you need to tighten a bit more during the set, you won’t be able to.
