Pain Unwrapping Theraband

Pain Unwrapping Theraband

I haven’t found this in another thread, so I thought I’d post:

I have become accustomed to hanging with just Theraband against bare skin as my wrap (faster, less slippage, tighter Bib fit). The only problem I’ve encountered using this method comes when it is time to unwrap— can anyone say “ouch”?
I’ve discovered a nice little trick to avoid the feeling that I am ripping off a layer of skin is to simply pull a strong flaccid stretch (holding from the glans) and unwrapping in this state. It seems the skin has become accustomed to the Theraband in this stretched out state, and so it prefers to be unwrap it in this state.
Hope this helps anyone encountering this problem.

Cap,

Also, you need to re-talc the Theraband from time to time. If you have a lot of humidity, maybe every day. Be sure to use talc and not corn starch. Just rub it on the side that contact the skin. Tape does not stick very well if you talc on the other side.

Or you can just rub the talc on your skin.

Hope this helps.

Hey Bib—
Thanks for the thought. I have to say though, that for whatever reason talc, baby powder, et al, have proven to cause more problems for me than they solve. Seems that the drying benefits they provide go too far and wig-out my skin - especially around the glans- and I end up very irritated, even raw. So, I instead prefer to go with straight Theraband and skin.
Also- walking around with my skipper smelling like a baby ain’t gonna win me any fans.

Thanks—-Love the Starter

Cap, have you tried other types of wraps? I tried a few different materials and methods before I found what works best for me (here’s what I use). You can do a search for “wrapping” to find different options.

Stevie,

Thanks. Yes, I’ve tried a good number of things.

I like straight Theraband because among other the benefits I noted I experience virtually no friction whatsoever. Regardless of the fabric I’ve tried I’m almost always turned off by a gritty/chaffing sensation (given that even baby-powder F*s with me you can tell I’m a quite the “sensitive” guy). There probably exists some exotic fabric out there that would work, but other than the unwrapping issue, which I have pretty much resolved, I think I’ll “stick” with Theraband <— (did you see what I jut did there, eh? Not bad, not bad)

Thanks again

Cap’n,

I am glad to see someone else likes just Theraband.

Bib,
If you’re saying that you hang (hung might be the proper tense) using Theraband ‘solo’ I was unaware of that. I do understand that it’s the exception.
To be frank, I don’t understand the need for a fabric wrap if one can ‘tolerate’ using just a Theraband wrap. Other than a possible need some might have to ‘thicken’ their shaft for a better hold when using a Bib Hanger (I can’t imagine why this would ever be necessary given the mechanics of a ‘Bib’) I really haven’t found a single benefit to under-wrapping with fabric. In fact, if one genuinely felt a need to beef up their flaccid circumference this too can be accomplished by simply increasing the amount of Theraband used.
As has been pointed out earlier in this thread there are very simple ways around the much dreaded “skin stick” that may turn off many to using Theraband solo.
I don’t mean to put this issue under a micro-scope, but I offer these reasons for using Theraband solo:
1. A tighter internal ‘hug’ by the hanger, thus allowing the interior of a ‘Bib’ to do the work it was designed for (esp. facilitating better circulation)
2. The chemical makeup of Theraband is very receptive to both skin and the gel interior of a ‘Bib’ — thereby all but ensuring a “no-slip” hang
3. Theraband has no ‘tooth’ or texture as does fabric. This reduces if not eliminates the instances of skin-burn and abrasion (I personally have never experienced it using Theraband solo)
4. One simple wrapping process instead of two. The benefits of this cannot be under-stated; most notably that you reducing by half the chance of suffering a poor wrap and the myriad complications this creates. It also cuts the wrapping and unwrapping time in half
*A useful, though admitedly dense formula for better understanding this would be 2-1=1
(couldn’t resist)

There are some out there who prefer not to wrap at all when using a ‘Bib’. While I concede this would be ideal it becomes unrealistic, for me at least, due to a debilitating skin-pinch that occurs at the the bottom of the Bib .

Finally, for those of you who have experienced a ‘rippling’ effect when using Theraband solo check out the recent thread pasted below. This also nicely eliminates the need to tape down a Theraband wrap.
(And it keeps yer skipper nice ‘n clean fer the wenches, you scurvy scabs)

Interesting property of the theraband

Maybe there is more to wrapping with fabric — or maybe issues with using Theraband solo— that I’m not aware of. It would be nice to know given that any little thing to make PE easier, more comfortable and especially more effective is the goal.

Capn,

For a long long time, the only thing I used for wrapping was Theraband. Theraband use for PE came about because of one of my son’s shoulder injury. The PT had given us black Thera for him to work out with. The rest is history. Anyway, I really liked the black, and then Phat sent me some silver, which I liked better.

The only reason I ever used an underwrap was when my skin would become really irritated, sometimes toward the end of the day, or when I was in maintanence with hanging, and had a full blown girth routine. The extreme Ulis would usually make the upper shaft pretty sore. A little extra padding helped.

I know this is for another thread… but girth as it relates to length gains (possibly impeding) and that friggen uli thing have both got me a little perplexed.
Just thought I’d let out a whine as I hook on another 12 lbs.

Thanks Bib
