Something I’ve been wondering about for awhile that I’d love your input on-

I’ve read posts in the past an other text that suggests that stretching/hanging with max force/weight will make the tunica stronger and more prone to resist stretching in the future. Do you think this is so?

In any event, as you know I only have time to manual stretch. Most of my stretches are held for 1 minute. I know it is difficult to relay feelings through text, but in your best guesstimate, on a scale between 1-10 with 1 the least and 10 the most force, how much force would you apply throughout the 1 minute hold?

Good questions RB! That’s another reason I like hanging…youre never really hanging with a “max force/weight”. It may be the max weight you can stand that week….but, as you adapt theres room for more weight. With stretching you can always pull harder albeit for shorter time limits due to things like grip strength. I’m anxious to hear BIBs thoughts.

I’d be the first to admit hanging is preferred to stretching, just don’t have the time and privacy to do it… :(

I have been mimmicking hanging by holding stretches of moderate force for 20 minutes at a time, switching hands or re-gripping when a muscle fatigues, I usually do this in front of the tv when I’m the only one in the room or in bed at night while the wife sleeps. When I do this, I try to always apply just enough force to feel a stretch in my tunica, only applying more as needed to maintain the stretched feeling. If I had to guess, I would say probably about 6-7 on the force scale mentioned above…

ANY stress on collagenous tissues tend to make them stronger in the long run. This is a proven medical fact. When they are not stressed for long periods, they atrophy, and become weaker.

I would apply that stress which gives me a good stretch, provides some soreness, without any pain whatsoever.
