Hanging without a wrap

I use a regular Bib hanger with the gel intact. I have tried using all types of different materials to wrap with and I have also tried Theraband alone.

Recently, I have tried hanging with no wrap. I have gone up to 16.25 lbs for 6x20 min sets without any ill effects. When not using a wrap, you have to be careful not to pinch the skin while applying the hanger, especially in the hinge portion, but this is not hard to get used to. I have not found any increased tendency for the hanger to slip with no wrap, at least at the weight I am using.

Getting hinge pinch is pretty annoying. I think I found something that works for me for now. And when I start hitting heavy weights again I’ll use a theraband. Just don’t feel it’s needed at the moment.

Lately I’m using HTW + What-A-Grip + Theraband. The purpose of the What-A-Grip is just to hold the HTW in place since I don’t like the Thera-band directly on my skin. My padding is a bit fat though because of it.

I keep hearing that really experienced hangers often prefer it that way (no gel inserts). You mentioned the nice lig stretch you got from this; I’ll probably try it myself either today or tomorrow. If it actually improved my fatigue that would be awesome. Plus it would solve the issue of my padding being too fat.

Burzum (or anyone else who knows):

If I pull the Gel insets out of my Bib, will they go back in correctly if I change my mind? (are they glued on, or just held in place by pressure?)

I want to try hanging without the gel, but i am afraid of messing up the hanger. If no one knows, I’ll ask Bib…

I have seen Bib offer to “re-gel” the starters for a small fee so I assume that it needs to be glued.

Personally I would recommend not removing the gel unless you have large flaccid girth.

I own both a starter (with gel) and a hardcore starter (without gel). The hardcore starter is not the same as the starter with the gel ripped out. The hardcore starter has a different shape, is designed to be used without gel, and does not have the extra spaces where gel would have been.

Since getting the hardcore starter I never use the starter anymore, but it is nice to have as a backup. Not having huge flaccid girth, I am guessing that the starter would be unusable for me if I removed the gel.

If you want a hanger without gel get a hardcore starter. IMO it is by far the best bib hanger once you are conditioned.
