BIB 5 On / 2 Off?

BIB 5 On / 2 Off?

I don’t know why but I just always assumed (yeah, I know better) that when BIB suggest no off days that he trained, full routine 7 days… rummaging through old threads, I found this interesting.

I started in June ‘98 by hanging under the guidance of the old Tom Hubbard site, and the original PEforums. Seems like forever. I started with a loop type hanger, but quickly realized that was dangerous. Then I began making better and more complicated hangers. I eventually, after about six months or so, worked up to hanging all day, from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, as well as a couple of sets at night when family had gone to bed, five days on and two off. Sometimes, with privacy, I would hang a few sets on the weekend. Rarely did I take an extended break.

Mike, I went through the same inquiry of Bib’s old posts years ago. I finally found definitive answers in these two threads.

BIB, GOOD news…..bad news……
Is two days off in a row preferable?

I am adjusting my hanging efforts accordingly.

Basically Bib was a family man, who didn’t want his hanging to leak into his family life on weekends. I think he was actually stealthing it for his kids but not to his wife. Ironic that he eventually ended up having a family PE product business with his sons. Anyway, with what sounds like a few kids growing up, you can imagine how much free time he had on weekends, not much. So he would sneak in a couple sets here and there, but by comparison to his weekdays, the weekends were effectively off days. Weekdays he would average something like 6-7 hours in the hanger if memory serves me. Weekends he would average maybe 30 minutes in the hanger, and some weekends be completely off. I don’t have a link, but I remember him posting that getting a set in within 36 hours of the last set insured some of the fatigue would carry over through the weekend. Whereas without this refresher set, deeper healing would begin over the weekend.

Furthermore, the above two links shed some serious light on what Bib really thought about the ideal gaining program, opposed to his most common advice to new hangers. Presumably he doesn’t believe most new hangers have the framework of understanding of IPR principles to implement the ideal strategy he describes in these two threads. And I think he might be right about that. Anyway, he says that if his schedule were not constrained by family life, he would have hung until reaching “total” fatigue - I assume you know what he means by that term - and then taken rest time to let things heal up completely before beginning another fatigue cycle, going to total fatigue again. This information proved to be a golden ticket for my own hanging, and I was able to consistently get length gains from using Bib’s ideal hanging program as described back in 2002-2004 when it was all still fresh to him as opposed to many years later when he starting telling everybody to hang with zero rest days.

I understand why he tells people to hang as much as possible. It’s because he knows 90% of guys or more never even get past 10 hours per week, and his ideal style is predicated on guys being able to put in at least 20 hours per week to reach total fatigue in the first place.

Of note, and something I also neglected to add to Vanquish’s recent thread - Bib mentions that hanging near total fatigue is also hanging near injury. Something I observed as well in my own hanging. The target tissues are extremely fatigued and worn out, so it is both a time of gains, and a time of caution. Personally I would end my cycles both because I would get sick of hanging so much time, and also partly because of safety reasons.

Hopefully this tidbit of info unlocks some serious gains for you guys.

BD,

Outstand post (as always), extremely informative and helpful.

Thanks for all the research you do and share.

Glad to help and good to see the continuing interest in the old gold mine of hanging information that lies hidden in Thunder’s archives.

Before 5.5" x 4.1" ///////// Now 7.4" x 4.9"

So in other words, hang without rest days and as many hours as possible per day? Though this toes the line of injury, it’s the best way to gain?

I hang 2 hrs/day and try to do it everyday. I could squeeze in more time, but I have heard there’s a law of diminishing returns with hanging. How true is that when it seems most of the big gainers got there by hanging well in excess of 10-14 hrs/week?

I think you are kinda missing the point of this thread and all of the supporting evidence that BD supplied.

You are kinda correct on the hours with a number of big gainers but if you go through the amazing Big Gainers thread that BD put together, you will also see a huge variety of routines, many taking rest days with hanging routines (every other day, 2 on 1 off etc).

My take on BIBs actual routine (my take as I am not about to speak for BIB)
BIB did a 5 day routine being strapped in most of the working day Monday thru Friday.
Due to privacy and being a family guy, BIB only strapped in 1 to 3 sets during the weekend… just to keep things a bit stretched out, not anywhere near the same as a M-F workout.

So I guess you can kinda call that 7 days but…

I ve read most guys gaining in length with hanging or stretching have a daily schedule and rarely take off any days. Same way i do, i was taking rest days in the beginning, but for 2 months now it s 1 rest day/week max.

Same here. 6 days ON/1OFF with the 6th day being slightly lighter workout, about half the duration. Everything feels good and I go about how I feel. I think the most important thing to think about if you’re gonna do it everyday is to consider the intensity you use and monitor your PI’s.

Girth work is another beast though, I have no experience in that as of yet but I would assume more rest days are required.

BD gave you great advice. I’d also suggest contacting Bib through his site. Him or someone that works for him (I have no way of knowing) answer questions very fast. I’ll also tell you what Bib told me when I asked him, 5 on 2 off with any kind of manual stretching would be fine. He said my goal should be to hit 10 hours a week. The thinking behind the 10 hours a week was for us guys that can’t hang on the weekends due to privacy. He told me if I could get a set in on the weekend great if not try to stretch and if I felted I needed an off day to take it rather then risk injury.

If your new to hanging keep in mind how time consuming it is. Two hours is closer to three and it’s a very boring form of PE. However it’s great if your used to sitting all day. BD has a great take on it he used to do it in cycles.

What do you say about hanging and extending? I find it counterproductive..

And also, what about hanging and advanced girth exercises?

There are many others way better qualified then me to answer these questions but I will say on the first question:

There are many that promote hanging followed by time in an extender to heal in the longer state.
DLD has pretty much designed his SRT system around this concept.

I found it pointless as well.

I did heavy girth work after hanging and I feel it wasn’t worth the time, effort and risk of injury. Doing too many things at once can be counterproductive.

When it comes to the Tunica going for challenging intensity, high frequency and long duration is better than low frequency, high intensity and low duration.
Connective tissue expansion is rather well researched.

Going for high intensity always presents a bigger risk for injury and toughening.
Just imagine pulling on different materials to elongate without destroying them… a rope,.. a rubberband… heated steal,..

At some point when time is maxed out(which I would do first) you will have to increase weight.
The exact intensity, duration and frequency is highly individual. And the penis is not only tunica. So the other tissue has to keep up.

I am thinking you have to keep it elongated downwards for the LIGS to heal in an elongated state, that s what i am doing right now after experimenting with what you said DLD is doing..also DLD seems to be one of the liars on these forums from what i read, but if you read in the first page of hanging 101 it says the tunica will not get the best of gains without the ligs being stretched properly before…
I am only doing jelqz/squeezes for girth, and they seem great, especially jelqing after hanging, and BTB jelqing, they feel in their place with hanging, but not overdoing them, never done 30minutes + of girth work..Uli’s also feel great after hanging, and i found i am a good gainer as well via girth routines, i measured while holding a ULI and saw the measurable 0.5-1cm temporary expansion, so i am guessing it is best to keep my “light” girth routine active for the moment.
