An ADS is used just to keep things stretched out between heavier hanging or other forms of heavier stress level exercises.

A fulcrum at ADS weight levels would not be effective.

Am I right in thinking then that you don’t think ADS or extenders are any use at all on their own ?

On their own, No, because the lightness of the stress is assimilated by the overall structures and after that nothing happens. They are valuable as an augmentation tool to perpetuate gains but not as gainers in and of themselves except if they are an introductory tool to hanging. They work great as an ADS but will only produce gains for a short period before additional heavy hanging becomes necessary then they act as an insurance policy against losses and plateau’s.
