Alcohol and Hanging

Alcohol and Hanging

Got to ask a question on this subject. It is a known fact that alcohol relaxes muscles but does it have the same effect on the ligaments? BTW I’m not talking about the rubbing kind.

Alcohol and any kind of PE is not a good idea.

I’ve found with taking careful notes that on days when I have alcohol (or more than 2-3 beers), progress is pretty much stunted. It screws with too many processes in the body. If you like a beer, try to keep it moderate for the repair days following your exercise.

Do you mean alcohol intensifies the muscle relaxtion from another substance? My brain hurts to know if that is what you meant.

The most important thing to remember about alcohol and hanging is: “What will the barmaid think?”;)

How does alcohol stunt growth? I can’t see how that could effect anything.

I don’t know the details, I just know what my log tells me (no reference to Twin Peaks intended) :D

Off the top of my head I’d guess something like this: Alcohol reduces testosterone. It’s a major poison that plays hell with your liver, and the liver is a critical player in many enzymatic and hormonal functions. Loss of testosterone means reduced of DHT, higher estrogen reatio, loss of libido, erections and blood flow to the penis (which is important for maintenace).

If nothing else it’s giving your body a whole lot of work to do just to survive, and surviving comes higher up the heirarchy of needs than growing.

I usually drink a couple of glasses of red wine while hanging. Maybe I should cut that crap out. :) You certainly don’t want to get hammered while doing any PE-related activity. That could be a recipe for amputation.

The most likely problem would be the alcohol dulling any pain, making you not realize you’re hanging improperly and getting yourself injured. Pain is a defense against injury, and it comes in kind of handy when hanging :) .

OK guys, I’m not talking about getting “slammed” but to have a couple of drinks or beers can’t be that detrimental. If you are going to jelq and have too many drinks then you might have a problem keeping it up at the right amount but with hanging I just don’t see the problem. I don’t think one should do any extreme PE like hanging and not be in total control of what’s going on.

I don’t think it does, I know plenty of tall alcoholics.

In which case I’d refer you to my first post, to stick to 2-3 beers (or equivelant) if you wan’t to avoid detrimental results. I’m not having a go, I personally drink way beyond what it the suggested norm at weekends, I just found that my log (excel spreadsheet) says I don’t make gains after excessive beer. Make a log and see if it affects you. You may find you have completely different results.
