Actual hanging time

I tried to search this, but for some reason I was constantly directed to a blank screen.

My question is this. When people talk about the amount of time they are hanging is it the actual time someone is strapped in or is it the entire duration of their workout. For example I do 8 sets of hanging at 20 minutes each, with the breaks it takes about 4 hours. So I put in 4 hours a day of hanging. On the other hand. I actually am only strapped in for 2 hours and 40 minutes, with the recommended 10 minute breaks between each set then my routine comes to be 4 hours total. If the breaks are considered part of the routine then I can understand saying I put in 4 hours a day. I’d like to hear your thoughts on this.

So how are supposed to measure the time we hang?

Well that fucking sucks. I think we need to create a more uniform system so that we may be able to properly compile data which is consistent for all.

Agreed.

Wearing a condom during your routine is not necessarily practicing safe PE!

Do you think I should start a poll asking what guys would prefer to use, then use the results as a foundation for this. Then we would be able to, hopefully, gain better data for future analyzation.

Will do, Thanks Thunder

Wow jb, interesting timing, I just started hanging with a cch3 today and I had the exact same question. I did a search as you did and really couldn’t find an answer either. But I have decided to just assume that what people mean is time under load.

Length for show. Girth for "Whoa"!

I asked Bib about this and he says ‘actual time in the hanger’ is what he counted or total number of sets (assuming 20 minutes).

Yeah, I asked bib also and I am awaiting a response to another question I asked him. Bib stated that you should not hang for longer than 4 hours (8 20 minute sets). From my calculations 8 20 minute sets equates to 2 hours and 40 minutes of actual hanging time. He suggest taking 10 minute breaks between sets, so there is no way his idea of 4 hours of hanging is actual time strapped in. This seems to completely contradict Bib’s “hanging time advice”. So I am awaiting a response for this question.

I’ve got an answer for you! (that doesn’t mean you’ll like it).

—Bibs 4 Hour Maximum: That's advice for an Inexperienced Hanger—
I already asked Bib that question. Bigger said the FAQ information about 4hrs maximum is for NEW / Inexperienced hangers. It doesn’t apply at all to experienced hangers. An experienced hanger knows his PIs, knows his body, & knows his limits—and will have no problem knowing how much force to use to reach fatigue and at the same time avoid injury. Of course, a newer hanger has not had a chance to learn those limitations…

Aside from that, Bib also told me he felt like after 4hrs of hanging there are pretty big diminishing returns from doing additional sets (assuming you’re already doing split sets… let’s say morning/ night).

—Hangtime: Can I count the unstrapped time?—
Like ThunderSS stated already, it truly can be ambiguous when people quote their hangtime. I prefer the way Bib does it—only count the time you’re strapped in. Since that’s what really counts—(I mean—how can you honestly call time when you’re not strapped in ‘hangtime’—that makes no sense to me… helicopter ejection seats don’t make sense to me either… )

—10 Minute Breaks—
About breaks—yes, do take at least 10 minutes. You might set your timer for 8 minutes if you’re slow at wrapping (that’s what I do!). You really want your full circulation back before your next set—and 20 minutes is the maximum safe time before you risk tissue death if your circulation is completely cut off.

—Hangtime—
I’ve only been hanging 2hrs a day lately—that’s 6 sets, although I’ll be going to 7 sets this week. That’s 3 hours+ of total time spent—warming up/ warming down, and 50 minutes of breaks (its not like I need a break after the 6th set—I go straight to some light jelqs)

But yeah, its a 3 hr commitment just to get in 2 hours of hangtime.

—I want to try more than 4hrs & See for Myself—
I want to try well beyond 4hrs if I can manage to put in the time/ sets. I’ll get there eventually… it’s a slow process just adding 1 set per week… Even if I hang perfectly efficiently (which I don’t!) 4hrs of hanging would take me about 6hrs/20 minutes at least (10 min warm up/ 10 min warm down, 10 minutes of break for every 20 minutes of hanging— leave a little time for jelqs too).

Anyway, in case I wasn’t clear, I’m confident he means 4hrs of being strapped in, not counting warm ups, breaks, or time spanking the monkey.

And once again—that’s advice for newer hangers that are still learning their limits. If you’ve PE’d your penis & you’ve got the conditioning, of course it makes sense that 4hrs might be nowhere near your max. I think Bib himself was doing 8hrs per day at one point—that would be about 24 sets.

Thanks

By the way, looks like you’ve made some nice gains :) 1.5”!

I bet you’ll hit 8” in no time… Good luck with your hanging!
