30 minute sets?

Hello everyone,

Is there really any issues with extending sets to 30 minutes if circulation and comfort is good?

I`ve done a few recently to cut time since my blood circulation seemed to be decent and there were no numbness at the 20-minute mark.

Most people, including me, would generally recommend against it; although I hang for about 45 minutes at a time, and circulation during that time is blocked a bit.


Recognize.

I use my mechanical stretcher for 30 minutes in the bath and I have never lost circulation or experienced any nerve issues and the clamp is on really tightly, otherwise it slips off eventually.

I have been using the stretcher since december `09 five times a week, if there was going to be any issues they would have surfaced by now.

Longest hang set I’ve done was 28 minutes at 15-17.5 lbs. Didn’t hurt or anything, circulation was naturally cut off a bit but there was no complications. I wouldn’t recommend doing it too often if you’re using a clamp based hanger. It also depends on what angle you’re doing as well.

For me, I think I will do the odd 30 minute set when the opportunity presents itself. That is, if I feel that my circulation and comfort is great at the 20 minute mark. Yesterday for instance, I had to hang in 10 minute sets because I did not hang comfortably, so that is just as likely to happen.

Nothing in PE is etched in stone. You have to go to what works and feel good to you. I do 30 minute sets, but they are drop sets. I got from 12lb-5lb.This is usually after the first set of 20 minutes.

I also do 30 minute sets, but I don’t use a regular hanger so I guess the same rules don’t apply to me.

However, even with vacuum hanger I think I’m going to have to reduce the time to 20 minutes once the weight increases.

You can do 30+ minutes sets with a vacuum-style hanger, not with a clamping style.

I would increase your weight rather than increase hanging time. In my hanging experience I have never felt I gained any productive results from extending the interval time beyond 20 minutes. But I have experienced definite benefits from added weight, change of hanging angle; for me it’s always been 3 sets of 20 minute intervals, it has produced excellent results.

It’s well known that total hanging time should be increased rather than weight as long as one can spare additional time. Only when no more time can be added to the routine and when fatigue cannot be reached with current weight should weight be increased.

Probably. Increasing weight should always be the last thing to do because you can’t increase it forever so it’s in your interest to drain all the gains from one weight before moving to another.
