'Size Matters' references in society

I didn’t read all the posts in this thread, but don’t forget the original M.A.S.H movie.

Sept. 4, '07: BPEL 6.875 inches, EG widest 5.25

Goal: Double digits

The recent Mike Myers film, The Love Guru, has a running theme about cock size. One of the main characters enlists the help of the love guru to win back his girlfriend from French hung Canadian hockey player Jacques “Le Coq” Grande. There are dozens upon dozens of size references throughout the whole movie.

The old 70’s comedy movie “Young Dr. Frankenstein” has a lot of jokes about the size of the monster’s cock. A stuck up rich woman abandons her wealthy fiancee to run off with the creature after seeing it (well more than seeing), among many other references.

One the opposite side of the coin, Michael Moore’s brief network 1990’s TV series, TV Nation, aired a skit in which an actor was secretly filmed going into numerous drugstores and asking where the small condoms were, getting laughed out just about every pharmacy.

In a episode of Scrubs, ‘JD’ finds Elliot with a guy named Keith, there are condom packets strewn around the apartment, JD picks up a condom packet and i quote “‘El Toro Grande’? i’m not familiar with that brand”

It made me laugh, but i also died a little inside.

There is a story about a PsyWarfare operation somewhere in Asia— can’t recall if it was during WW2, Korea or SE Asia, but apparently whatever covert agncy was active had had a bunch of Magnum size condoms made up and labeled S/M, then airdropped ‘accidentally’ over the bad guys, I’m guessing to unnerve them by playing into the insecurities.

I have to say looking at most of these examples, I’m picking up on the fact that it is either used to cause a stir in the ego, or for comic expression.

I think that the same applies in woman’s cases. Maybe not linked with genitals but at the same time, women have more parts to worry about then men. I think the size matters adds cause an equal amount of discomfort in both men and women. Women being the way they are tend to have less of a problem with pointing the finger at guys. I think that insecurities in woman tend to pop up regarding their physical appearance with the same adds, only in context of “boob size matters” as opposed to “dick size matters”.

In my book it’s a easy way to sell or get a laugh. When dealing with advertisement, as with any media form where the viewer should relate to the product, character, situation, so on, it is easiest to pick at things that are guaranteed to strike a nerve. Similarly naked hot bodies are used for a pleasant beer commercial, and shitty tag lines are used for products aimed at insecurities. This is a testament to the time we live in and how fucking easy we are to get our emotions in a bunch by something that has a blatantly obvious point - to sell or - cause a cheap laugh.

It’s the cheapest trick in any marketing, or film development. The problem is: The majority will always react to it.

I’d like to think that I pay it no mind, but I do. It’s centered at the very basis of my motivational pyramid, and very few people are not directly affected by that specter of ego.

Wishing and hoping for the best - yup your doing it wrong.

It was Russia, although I’m not sure this was ever done.

Quote
One of their psychological warfare schemes was to drop gigantic condoms apparently made for Americans, labeled “medium,” into Russia; one former official claims that this was intended as a joke, but General Smith, tired of the CIA’s obsession with retail rubber goods, barked, “If you send me one more project with god-damned balloons, I’ll throw you out of here.”

I’m betting that they’ve dropped that excess inventory somewhere since then ;)

How about the Bowflex Revolutionary commercial currently running on television, overtly feeding off of insecurities, they use the size matters reference throughout the entire commercial.

But really, all you need do is watch Yoda when says “size matters not, look at me, judge me by my size do you.” So the moral of the story is that all you must do while having sex is just use the force.

Bowflex was already covered.

I also hate those gimmicky ads and bullshit references all over TV and movies, probably because of my own insecurity even tho I was always average. Growing up I just always hated being made to feel inferior for something I had no power to change (until now! I am a PE beginner). I guess it helped me understand racist experiences better (I am a white male), but the difference is that there are oodles of historical support, literature opposing racism, whereas kids growing up hearing dick jokes get no other guidance but embarrassed smirks from even the most sophisticated people.

I hope I’m not too off topic I know and I don’t mean to say that penis insecurity is as bad as racial persecution, it’s just the lack of dialogue about it that is hard for men to deal with. I don’t think Lily Allen understands what she is saying in her song “not big”.. I can understand it is a female empowerment thing (she says that), and it’s just her way of cutting down men who rejected her.

Curb Your Enthusiasm: The “big vagina” episode. This is a serious classic, and so original. It’s in season 5.
Somehow it gets around to Larry that Jeff’s ex says he has a small penis. Larry mentions it to Jeff and he says.. No, big vagina. Larry gets into this idea and at one point says how guys all over are being branded “small penis” and “these big vagina ladies are getting away with murder!” This is just the first time I’ve seen this idea dealt with in a popular program, and it’s hilarious and insightful. It’s good to hear it acknowledged again that good sex takes two, and unsatisfied ladies always going for the dick size thing can think twice. Perhaps Lily Allen has a big floppedy cavernous vagina, eh Lily? ;)

Oops I didn’t realize there were so many threads here, that was meant to be in response to the first page. Sorry I got on my soap box there.

This one is pretty high up there on the list of offensive size references.

The point of the song: Girls WILL run around telling everyone and making fun of you if you don’t have a big dick.

I just remembered this song, also by TLC. The whole song consists of the girls whining about how the guy she’s with made her insecure and gave her body issues she didn’t used to have.

Hypocritical isn’t even a big enough word. This is the main problem with all these references and what I will be focusing on with my project.

Lily Allen dissing small dicks between songs at concerts (I’m guessing it’s usually an “intro” to the Not Big song) There are actually even more of these “speeches” from different shows on youtube than the ones I’m linking to.. She seems to have a real agenda.

Here she is explaining what the song is about in some interview:

I would have to say that she is a really unhappy woman. Going on and on about dick size, IMHO, is a sign of some sort of insecurity on her part. She should be happy she gets ANY cock, let alone a “big one”. (I’m not seeing a knockout kind of a girl there)

It’s kind of a shame that people hone in on this stuff. A large majority of men with smaller than average penises, end up in long term relationships. ( I’m not sure where I read the study, but it was almost as if the woman felt more secure because a smaller penised man might be assumed to be faithful versus a “hung” man)

Ultimately, who knows. It’s always on a case by case, woman by woman basis. I really think, that if a man puts maximum effort out to please the woman he’s with, in all areas, she ain’t gonna sweat it.

Paraphrased: It is not the critic who counts: The credit belongs to the man in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again, who, at the best, knows the triumph of high achievement, and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat.
