Penis Size: The True Average

If I were to ever go to a nudist beach I’d wet jelq (fluff up) so much before walking out everyone would think I’m actually hung. :D

This is an interesting discussion we have going on here. Great posts Wad and Para, as usual

When Wad tells his personal observations I relate with what he’s saying over and over. I’ve seen and heard so many similar things. That plays a major part in my believing what I do. Another part of me wants to go along with polls, like Para, that I think I may can trust somewhat, and as Para is a scientific researcher I can definitely appreciate his believing in more than just hearsay and personal experiences to arrive at accurate data. Enough hearsay and experience added up can be valid in it’s on way also though, provided that person is a good judge. Just like hearsay and personal observations have possible problems in being accurate and complete, these size polls have problems also in being accurate and complete. Perhaps, somehow, the real truth lies somewhere in between.

>>>Onward to 8.12 NBP!!!

Wad, why not 8.25”?

My goal has changed from 7 to 7.25” bp.

My fat pad is about .75 from my vantage point… and i’m pretty skinny.

It’s worthwile for everyone to maximize what they have… it’s pretty much all we can do.

Great posts by everyone!

Start April, 2003: 5.75" BPEL, 5.25" Girth Current: 7.125" BPEL, 5.5"+ Girth still trying...

The sad thing about all the “size” hype is that it is all primarily generated by guys, the gals just don’t give a flat damn unless your playing with a breakfast sausage. When you surprise your gal with a sweet porshe in her favorite color she will not give a rip damn about the engine, so save some money and don’t go for the turbo 112valve option. She just don’t care whats under the hood or in your pants.

I have two papers due today, so I can’t spend much time here right now, but as an example, I will calculate confidence intervals for the Israeli study, since it provides the requisite standard deviation and it is also the study with the smallest sample size (55 subjects).

For the Israeli study, we can be 95% confident that the real population mean for BPEL falls between 5.17” and 5.54”, and we can be 99% sure that the population mean falls between 5.11” and 5.60”. Given the nature of this particular study, a reasonable “population” to generalize it to would be Israeli men suffering from erectile dysfunction.

To understand the relevant and uncontroversial inferential statistics I am using, this should be helpful, as should the first four sections here. To understand why population size (i.e., 65 million for American men whose average penis length you’re interested in) is irrelevant (as long as it’s at least 10 times larger than the sample size) to the statistics, see the central limit theorem, without which medical and psychological research — not to mention all of the social sciences — would be largely impossible.

Para,
I’ll defer to your experience in numerical probabilities and survey methodology as you are a researcher. However, I’m just not so sure that there has been a statistically large enough sampling of actual penises studied to formulate a reliable, accurate theorem - which will consistently hold up over larger & larger samplings of data/population, etc.

>>”To understand why population size (i.e., 65 million for American men whose average penis length you're interested in) is irrelevant (as long as it's at least 10 times larger than the sample size) to the statistics, see….”

Does this imply what I think it does? Let’s say there are 1,200 men in the NFL and I wanted to determine the average penis size of a modern NFL player, your statement seems to imply that I do not want to study a sampling of more than 120 men - for then the population (1,200 NFL players) would not be “at least 10 times larger than the sample size.” So, in other words, I want to study less than 120 men to try to determine accurate size figures for the 1,200-member group.

What if I studied 1/2 that number - 60 men - and there just happened to be an unusually high percentage of larger dicked men in that study (let’s say the study was NBP and the linemen - the fattest of the samples - went last, before the thinner “skill position” players, so there happened to be a disproportionately small number of 320-lb men getting their NBP measured, that would clearly skew the numbers.

I understand that the science of statistically probability is quite complex (my cousin is and actuary and deals with this type of shit constantly for insurance companies), but often times our most beautiful and complex theorems begin to yield erroneous results as they are pressed into wider application. The old saying, “A lot of things look good on paper, but just don’t work in the real world” is not completely without merit.

I understand that if you flip a coin, the odds are always 50% for heads or tails - with each flip, whether you flip it twice or 10,000 times. But the human species is so varied, and human physiology is so complex - and the particular area of penis size has been so scarely studied - I just don’t believe that science has all of the needed data to formulate a reliable theory of probability regarding dick size.

“>>…central limit theorem, without which medical and psychological research — not to mention all of the social sciences — would be largely impossible.”

This was quite a grand statement; unfortunately, the comparisons between these subjects and “average penis size” are irrelevant. First of all, you are on extremely thin ice when you bring psychological research and the social sciences into the argument; both areas, of course, have long been the targets of the most scathing criticism by many highly respected academicians. Some have argued that the social “sciences” have led to some of our greatest societal failures. And psychology often boils down to a coin toss, there is so much subjectivity involved. When 20 psychiatrists can examine a patient and give 20 widely different reports - and then engage in heated arguments with each other over their findings…..need I say more.

And the allusion to cancer research does not find its parallel in the great penis size debate. Cancer research has, again, developed over so many millions of patients, their doctor’s reports, as well as intensive university research. Again, we’re saying that not even 1/60 of 1% of 65 million men have been studied. On the contrary, every cancer patient has had their treatment regimen and their responses charted by their doctors. These findings are discussed at gatherings, published in medical journals, etc., etc.

Using statistical probabilities in the hard sciences is one thing; trying to consistently apply these theorems in such a minisculely researched area (subject to wide variation) is bound to lead to erroneous conclusions. I’m not suggesting that these theories are “useless,” however, I don’t believe they can offer us any satisfying level of certainty. And, their findings could be immediately shot down in the face of just 1 extensive study.

Hearsay, personal experiences, and reading posts at Thunder’s have indicated to me size does matter to most women. For what it’s worth, here’s a survey. http://www.misterpoll.com/results.mpl?id=3364120216

beenthere,
I completely agree with you. Usually the guys who tend to dismiss the significance of size are either small or consider themselves small. And, I’m convinced, any woman who attempts to completely dismiss the significance of the pleasure of a big cock vs. a little cock is either lying or has personally experienced only smaller cocks.

I don’t know your age, but guys like me and Dino & luvdadus, etc. are not “young bucks” - and, over the years, we’ve seen and understood this reality. Not to sound condescending, however, but I believed the PC shit as well when I was young. Call it anecdotal or whatever; hell, Life is anecdotal! And if we never accumulate sensory experiences and draw conclusions from them, we’d remain an infant for the rest of our lives. We don’t need to have research papers or survey data to make a left or right turn, or say yes or no.

I need no further proof that my own experiences regarding my wife (soon to be ex) of 18 years [hell, that’s another story entirely - a story which proves that sex is not everything; hell, that bitch actually informed me that she wants to continue fucking me after she throws me out. I told her to go to hell). Anyway, we had enjoyed sex for 16 years together - everything seemed “fine,” we both would get off….yada yada yada.

When I began to do PE, and started quickly gaining erect girth, damn did that supercharge things. And remember, I was an “old piece of ass” by then. Yet she began having really vocal orgasms - the first in our 16 years together. Also, when my length reached a certain point, and I seemed to tilt her CDS - which resulted in an intense “sucking” sensation, she went completely bonkers, like an epileptic in a fit. Her crotch poured, she shivered all over, making the strangest sounds - and it lasted and lasted for her. For my part, it felt like her vaginal muscles literally sucked the load deep from my pelvis, resulting in an almost burning nut (that was once I had hit about 7.5 BPEL x 6.12+).

What a revelation it was to both of us! If you had asked her about “size” for our first 16 years, she would have honestly insisted that it didn’t matter to women, only guys…..until she finally got hit with over 22 cubic inches of man meat (and growing). We actually reached the point where she had to be very wet - or use KY Jelly - for sex not to be uncomfortable. But once it was in her wet snatch, she was so tight - and my erections were so full - that even the slightest movement by either of us caused intense sensations for both of us. And the CDS thing was completely magical.

Don’t tell me size is a nonissue. I know better.

Enough pieces of a puzzle when put together will make a picture. One puzzle part for me is when I lived in an apartment. My neighbor dumps her hung alcoholic boyfriend that she is very loud with vocally during intercourse. Weeks later she starts dating a new guy. No sounds at all from her with him. I’m in my forties(damn I hate saying that—-I’m 30 at heart) by the way, and have had time to gather in a lot of pieces.

Bigger is better, definitely. It’s not a size matters thing, it’s a bigger is (nearly) always better thing. Take the guys like Wad who get to have sex with the same woman before and after growing a larger pecker and you really see how the wife or girlfriend nearly always has more fun with the larger unit

make it happen, make it long, make it happen, make it fat, make it happen, make it hard, make it happen, make it last, make it happen, make it fast, make it happen, make it real, make it happen, make you feel, make it happen, make it happen, make it happen

Great discussion here. Cudos to Wad and Para.

While I agree with Wad that each of the studies taken by themselves may not constitute a large enough sampling, the fact that there are seven separate and distinct studies listed, balances out the lesser respondents for each individual study. Otherwise, think of the probability that among each of the seven studies, that each one somehow was able to only locate men with smaller-than-average penises.

Personally, I don’t give a whole lot of credence to the Kinsey study as far as penis size. While the work he did was groundbreaking, to have 3000+ men measure their own penises with an index card is not what I would consider rock-solid evidence of the average size of the penis. It doesn’t seem it was far off from the average, but looking at these other studies, it just may be a bit on the high side.

As far as locker rooms, like was said previously, the grass is always greener and the penis is always bigger on the other side. I spent four years in the Marine Corps and took a lot of showers with a lot of different guys of different sizes, races, ethnicity, etc. There was really only one guy that really stood out from the rest. I would say he was at least 5-6” flacid length and 5” girth. Don’t really know how big it got erect. But that was not the norm; not even close really.

My wife has gotten both hands around my penis (5” NBPEL), depending on how she grips it. That’s really no justification of size. And you really can’t trust what a woman says about what size she’s had in the past. I know from personal experience that every time we get like 3-4 inches of snow, my wife swears it’s 6-8 inches (Lucky for me).

No doubt, there are some good-sized penises out there. How many? Who knows. But the data is what it is. Average is somewhere around 6 inches.

Wad,

Your rhetoric is impeccable, but you simply don’t know what you’re talking about re: statistics and its application to the sciences, both “natural” and “social”. I will let the link I posted on the central limit theorem (and applet example included therein) speak for itself.

Yo, just got back from the gym, and realize the post above was rude - sorry Wad. I think I’m just tired. I’ll try to explain better later. The “10 times smaller” question certainly deserves an answer.
