Louisiana Cajun French has been separated from proper Parisian French for about 200 years.

People from France say Cajuns will use words that went out of use generations ago in France.

Cajuns have also come up with some of their own new words.

As far as spelling and punctuation go it has only been about the last 30 years anyone has tried to write a dictionary and preserve the language.

The language was just handed down orally from generation to generation.

It’s surprising how deep it’s roots are. I was born in 1959 and I’m the first generation in my family to have English as a first language.
