Length only or Girth only

Length only or Girth only

As we’re coming to a new year, lots of people will be taking a fresh look at their PE and setting goals. I though it might be worth highlighting something that’s been mentioned before but put it in a thread of its own - length only or girth only routines.

The reason being that we start a routine which works for a while, then it stalls, so we look at time off deconditioning, try something else, and the discussions go on.

It’s worth reminding that the tunica is made up of *two* layers. There is the longitudinal and the lateral layer. If we work on both then they will both adapt and when gains stall it can be very frustrating.

If you train length only for 3 months, the lateral (girth) fibres will be getting a good deconditioning break. The next 3 months (or whatever duration you prefer) you can train girth with a good edge, and let the longitudinal fibres decondition instead. That way you always have fresh pastures to exploit.

Hmmm, I like that. I’ve only been doing length and accepting any girth that happens to come along the way. I’ve been following the idea that length should be done before girth, but your suggestion looks like a possible way for me to do both as I need girth no doubt. 3 months at a time seems like an excellent way to go. Thanks Shiver.

What exactly does the jelq exercise though? I always figured it did both length and girth and that it was essentially the general PE exercise.

Obviously stretching does length, i was under the impression that dry jelques worked girth mostly

Jelq probably does do both, but I’d sugest that it is primarily a girth exercise. Personally I’d go with regular stretches *or* clamped girth, but there are so many variations in terms of people, exercise and stages of development that any particular exercise would most likely be misleading.

Stretching is easy to isolate, girth is harder to isolate. My own girth gains seem to be best when I do very sparse exercise, but with a sample size of 1 that can’t be read as a fact. Maybe with more participation we can between use get a result.

Maybe.

Girth exercises put stress in all directions. A couple months of extreme Ulis toughened my dick, ligs included (probably because the clamp was at the very base, pressing into them). I hadn’t hung for so long I expected 6-7 lbs. to be an effective starting weight, as it had in the past after similar breaks. Nope. Even 10 lbs. didn’t feel like anything. Another month off helped a little, but I’m definitely starting this hanging run considerably stronger than if I hadn’t done the intense girth stuff.

That’s surprising, especially since I would have expected the skin to become tender the quickest which might limit weight. I’ve never used any kind of hanger though except one I built that grips just the head. That’s another thing I keep meaning to write about, but it will be a marathon post, and it ideally needs pictures to explain it which I’m unable to do at the moment.

Shiver, I agree with this for length, but not for girth.
When you do girth, the longitudinal layer also takes some of the stress, my Base Ballooning exercise proves this, so for total deconditioning for girth, a total layoff is required IMO.

Edited to say : Doh!, I should read all the posts before replying (Hobby’s Post)
