Is PE as mental as it is physical?

This is one thing that I have been thinking about for a while throughout my PE career. I know that there are many activities that require just as much of a mental investment even though it is a physical activity being performed. Sometimes when I find myself in the middle of a PE session, I like to visualize what is being done at the moment and where I am going to be when I reach the light at the end of the tunnel. More often than not when I am mentally involved, I find myself having a much better session, PI’s, post workout hang, etc. but when I just go through the motions, it may be a little more lackluster and less fulfilling.

So members of TP, am I alone on this or are there others that think of PE as being something that is mentally important along with your normal routine?

I have always felt that visualization is an important factor in making gains. Basically, imagine, while working out, where you are hoping to get.

Yeah, visualisation can make it happen faster. Imagine your self thinking this ain’t working while you are doing PE. This self defeating way of thinking while doing PE will only grow frustration not a bigger dick.

Speak softly carry a big dick, I'm mean stick!

I really believe in this phenomenon. They say that merely thinking deeply about doing a sporting activity will make you better at that activity, despite not having moved a muscle.

I believe it to be true

Life is a mystery. The powers of the mind are awe striking. And considering we only use 10% of our brains, well, that leaves you to wonder.

Here’s a quote by Joe Kehoe quoting Arnold:

The key to remember when visualizing is to always visualize that you already have the thing you want. This is a mental trick. You don’t hope you’ll achieve it, or build confidence that some day it will happen. No, with the visualization technique you “live and feel it” as if it is happening to you now. Now on one level you know this is just a mental trick, but here is an important truth to understand. The subconscious mind cannot distinguish between what is real and what is imagined. Your subconscious will act upon the images you create within, regardless of whether those images reflect your current reality or not.

Does it work? Ask Arnold Schwarzenegger. “It’s all in the mind,” says Arnold, who is five-time winner of the Mr. Universe title, a successful real estate tycoon, movie star, and now governor of California. Arnold has it made, but it wasn’t always so. Arnold can remember when he had nothing except a belief that his mind was the key to getting where he wanted to go.

“The mind is really so incredible. Before I won my first Mr. Universe title, I walked around the tournament like I owned it. I had won it so many times in my mind, the title was already mine. Then when I moved on to the movies I used the same technique. I visualized daily being a successful actor and earning big money.”

I have incorporated visualization in my life with bodybuilding, weight reduction, and PE.. Granted I worked hard (pun intended). Three months of the Newbie Routine netted me a 3/4” BPEL gain. That wasn’t even committing fully to the routine due to my work schedule being 60+ hours a week for the past 2 1/2 months.

To all, I would suggest checking out “What The Bleep Do We Know?”. Quantum physics really challenges conventional science, pushing the envelope of thinking outside the box. The abstract mind may hold the secrets to something greater!

I believe the law of attraction is the real deal. The problem is people don’t understand how it works, and it makes lazy people frustrated because it doesn’t work based on their scedule, often times you realized that it worked only after years of not thinking about your goal. As far as I can tell there are really only a few kind intelligent people.

1.) Those who love the “work smart” idea, think positively and are lazy = semi successful, usually intelligent enough to find a way to be “good” in the world we live in.

2.) Those who love to work hard, are intelligent, but OVERLY realistic, there is nothing idealistic about the way they live their life, there is no truth that we don’t know, conspiracy theories are ALWAYS wrong. Everything in the world is pretty black and white. I doubt many of these people have found PE for obvious reasons, but these people will also be able hit that mark of being “good” in society. They will tell others how hard work got them far, and that hard work is all it takes blah blah, and they will put down those unconventional non-traditional people.

3.) Then there are the people who approach a problem realistically but with an open mind, although they approach it realistically, they are always looking for a little bit more. (something to push the envelope) of reality, and they work to think positively, these are the people that will be great, and perhaps they will most certainly face more mental and physical adversity along the way. I imagine that alot of people trying PE fall into this category.

I would say that intelligent people would be a mix of those three catagorys. I certainly have a lot of #1 in me, but then I’m always wanting to push the envelope of human knowledge when it comes to science(#2).

man of 10, I would agree. I am certainly a bit of all 3, I don’t even know if anyone is always one or the other, but certain people have tendancies, and we just have to make sure we fall into the right one as much as possible, whichever one you think that is depends on you I guess.

This is an awesome discussion!

I myself am really getting into the whole mind over matter situation, and its so filled with amazing things that are written. But it will be interesting to see some of these things I have set my mind to actually fall into a more real plane instead of just imagining it could happen. I can’t PE for now due to some painful varicoceles so I have been working on just auto suggestion and imposing my will on my subconcios and thoughts or testimonials on any of this stuff would indeed be appreciated.

I think it is. Every night before I go to bed I say (I will be 8”x6”) several times and then I crash.

Started: BPEL 6.75" MSEG 4.75", Now: BPEL 7.75" MSEG 5.438", Goal: BPEL 8" MSEG 6"

Visualization and positive thinking are a real enhancement to the workout! By a confident thinking, we set the proper direction for the unconscious mind which is in charge with most of the body functions, including growth/repair tasks.

I’ve also noticed the difference between making a routine in a focused state, actually feeling the growth (I know it’s just a mental illusion) versus a superficial workout in a distressed state of mind. The later feels much like a waste of time.

Starting BPEL: 6.9" (Dec.1st, 2008)

Current BPEL: 8.11" NBPEL: 7.63" BPFSL: 9.09"

Current MEG : 5.6"

Visualization definitely keeps me in the zone and prevents me from going through the motions.

Thinking will not make you dick bigger, let’s be honest. But having a good and positive attitude will affect your physical workouts which in turn will affect your gains. For example, if your more mentally motivated you might put more of an effort into the routine, push a little further, hold a little longer, jelq a few times more, etc.

I myself have a wooden rod which is the goal length I find very exciting. I find that It does help with achieving a max dimensions during PE. I have it in the room where I can see it, I sometimes grasp it, holding it in place like I have already reached my goal. It’s so exciting, motivating. Whats the most helpful is that you can see and handle a physical object, it’s not just an idea. It’s helped me alot.

PE is emotional and mental. I find that I have had to adjust mentally and emotionally to having actually had real gains. Sometimes at night I feel myself and it takes some getting used to more being there. My partner has noticed the progress and has commented on it, and that has changed sex quite a bit.

My perception of what is ‘big’ has changed. Suprisingly I find that in someways having a larger unit isn’t as important. Mostly because I am finding that it’s not how I thought it would be. I am also not as impressed with other mens bragging or actual endowments, mostly because I now know it’s not the end all in life.

Yes, there is a very significant mental component to PE (hence the quote in my signature, I made that up myself in HS when I was a nationally ranked track runner and trained with very high intensity) but on the contrary, you have to be careful you aren’t “lulling yourself into a false sense of security.” For example, some people visualize a certain measurement and finagle the ruler angles and what not until they get the tip of their dick where they want on the ruler. I firmly believe that this accounts for the majority of “newbie gains” reported here. I’m seen countless posts and threads where someone came on all excited in PE because they “gained” a half inch in their first few weeks only to find that further gains were slow or non-existent. Just remember to always be true to yourself in your PE career and everything else you do in life.
