I have no idea why you posted the way you did and I’ll overlook it for the time being……

The whole point of my post is that, like Av and others on here, I’m aware of what it costs to run the place. The knowledge and camaraderie this place offers is second to none and it should not fall on Thunders shoulders to keep reaching into personal funds to sustain it.

What I did was at no prompting from anyone here and yes, I ran it by the boss first.

I’d hate to loose contact with friends on this forum, and I’d hate to loose the insight this place offers.

Hence, the reason for the post.

If it offends you-sorry. Get over it.

Avocet can be a bit rude, but we forgive him :p

May the force (of your hand) be with you. :littleguy

For the record: I did not notify Thunder that I intended to make my donation thread, and I made it very early this morning (meaning that it was probably pushed out of the recent posts lists and not seen right away by the other two men who decided to make a post). Nothing more than a weird coinsidence—or a sign from the aliens, if you subscribe to such theories.

For me personally, I’ve had the 2004 stats thread on my mind ever since I read it, and the other day I was beginning to read a thread and noticed that not one of the members in the thread had a donator’s tag. I didn’t realize at the time that not having the tag was an option, so I assumed that not a single one of these men had made a financial contribution (some of them being here for years), and was a little bummed.

Being a donator is not akin to being part of some secret, elite group of people. As was mentioned previously in this thread, all members are welcome. As I know from my own personal experiences, not all members who would like to donate can, and this is totally understandable. My post was directed to those people who can donate, but maybe they think they can’t (therefore I provided links to prepaid credit card sites), and those new members who have not contributed yet, but just might make a move in that direction, should someone like myself plant the right seed of thought in his/her mind.

Whilst I understand your points doubles and I have no wish to challenge them and certainly no desire to make you uncomfortable in any way, for I know you well enough I think, by now, to know that you would be amongst the first to open your wallet, should the need ever arise and willingly contribute towards the support which is necessary, to maintain the wonderful community we love and know, as Thunder’s Place.

However, as the points you make are possibly the impressions that new or potential members might have, being unfamiliar with the history and the commendable ethos, which lies behind this Forum, I will use them if I may, to clarify (in my view) the actual position to be, from what I have constantly seen and what I have consistently found, throughout my all too brief membership, of Thunder’s Place.

I don’t recall the Boss ever asking for help with funding, at any time, from anyone, even though I think perhaps he should, but no and any fresh appeal from time to time, comes from others who are either party to the financial situation of this forum, or from those who may stop to think and consider who is footing the bill and find just as they thought, it is him. I personally assume that the costs are covered, until such times as I find such a thread pointing out that it isn’t so and I am grateful for this, because if you know, then you can do something, however little, to help, if you find you can.

This place is free…all these donation pushes make it sound like if you don’t donate you don’t belong here. I say we uphold the principles of this wonderful place and let the issue arise when it does…and not force it down everybody’s throats.

So often, I have seen Thunder respond to suggestions of a possible rate, that $1 can mean a whole lot more to some, than $100 means to others, as he dismisses the idea for this reason. I cannot think of a better way in which to make anyone who doesn’t donate, because they can’t, feel just as valued and welcome as those who can and in doing so, uphold the principles as you say, of this wonderful place. I’m not sure however, with the grand sum of $14 in the kitty, when another time would be better, to make some push (if you like) for donations. I suspect the issue has in fact arisen already.

I think everyone should donate, but the philosophy behind donations is “give what you can, when you can”. But to everyone out there who hasn’t donated, you are just as welcome as anyone who has. IMO

Thunder couldn’t have put it better himself! :-k In fact I am certain he has, on so many occasions.

Thank goodness Thunder is the owner, for even though I am, I’d say, fairly easy going (which is hard to believe I know), I would be so disappointed when any apparent even if unintentional lack of gratitude is shown, that I would ‘pull the plug’ without further ado. But he takes it all in good grace, the good along with the bad, with little by way of complaint and I know I am not alone in being so grateful that he reacts in this way, for the other alternative is ending it all and this is the constant fear I have, when I read posts such as yours, which could be misunderstood! :nodding:

So if I haven’t said it lately or nearly often enough, I say now to Thunder, ‘Thank you, for all that you are to us, which is seen and spoken, but most of all for all that you do for us, which is unseen and unspoken’.

Donate to Thunder's Place and help save the daffodils :spin2: , but remember to add an extra 30 cents every time :leftie:

What the hell is everybody attacking me for???

Did you even read my posts?? If so, maybe you should go back and read them again. I LOVE THIS PLACE TOO!

I want everyone to donate, I am just reasonable in the sense that not everyone can all the time. And frequent requests for donations chip away at the wonderful principles of this site and the people that run it.

Avocet got pissed at me for some strange reason. I certainly wasn’t insinuating that he didn’t donate, but he certainly took it that way.

Now you tell me that you are going to overlook the way I posted???

Give me a damn break. I am not offending everyone, and the ironic thing is that we are all arguing the same point. DONATE PLEASE!

…but if you can’t (for whatever reason) you are certainly still a part of this community. I didn’t know that was a backwards ideology, cajun.

Please, relax. And get off my back for expressing my thoughts.

Thanks Rousseau.

I appreciate the thoughtfulness of your post and I agree completely.

Back again, after awhile. I don’t know for sure what the fuss is about.

I think it is a misunderstanding between doubles and me, a mutual mis-read of the intentions behind what we both said. If I was rude, I failed in the intent I had in mind. I apologize, if I was rude.

“You better, he has a chrome ban button, although I don’t think he has ever used it,” said T.

In banning, it’s true. However, I am a semi-virgin. I tried to ban a guy once, somebody who only wanted to create dissent here and did his best to make that happen. I couldn’t get the software to work; I posted to the other Mods and asked one of them to do the deed for me. So, my button is at least dented, from the trying.

I think, too, that typing words on a forum is sometimes a very precarious thing. Different from sitting with a friend or an aquaintance and saying something, where he/she can read your face and your body language and use that information to sort of “grok” where you are trying to go, even if you are not saying it right.

Donating is a good thing for this site, if one can afford to and has the inclination. Let’s talk about that and not who has or who has not. Donating has never been a condition of belonging here. It just helps Thunder out a whole lot in being able to improve the site all the time, not to mention keep it going.

and that is all I have to say in this thread, no matter what anybody else says, unless you say something nasty about my mom.
