Debate - Hanging vs. Manual Stretching

123

Set-up time is a factor

I have tried ADS, Manual Strertching and Hanging.

My gains were measurably better when I was hanging … but it was VERY time-intensive and required a great deal of privacy … neither of which I now have with any level of consistency.

Given that it is widely accepted that consistency is king … My view is that, for me, manual stretching and jelquing is the best approach. The biggest factor for me is the lack of overhead associated with manual stretching. If I find that I have 30 minutes of privacy, I can initiate a manual stretching session with almost zero set-up time. If my privacy is abruptly ended … I can also terminate the manual stretching session very quickly.

The same cannot be said for hanging. A hanging session requires wrapping, application of the hanger and then the weights. This doesn’t take a ton of time once you get the “hang” of it, but the set-up time for a hanging session is way more than the zero set-up require for manual stretching. Also … terminating a hanging session if your privacy is abruptly ended tends to resemble a Benny Hill skit!

For me … for now … manual stretching is the best answer

I`m really interested in resuming hanging now as it was what made me best gains, probably much due to the fact that I took it very seriously and were consistent.

But your post and my own experience reminds me of how much work it really is.

Yes … it is work to get into a consistent hanging routine … but if privacy is not an issue, then I believe that Hanging is well worth the investment in effort.

Consider doing a 3 month trial period and see how it goes. it will take you at least the first month to work out the kinks in your training (i.e. what wrapping method works best for you and what frequency works well, etc …)
If you can get past that and privacy is not an issue, you can easily do the hanging during your down time (i.e watching TV) or figure out a way to multi-task.

Privacy and time is not a major issue right now, but I fear that may change in say, two months, which may make my efforts obsolete. If I knew I had 6 months undisturbed, I would probably do it.

Maybe I`ll just start and see what happens.

My advantage is that I`m an experienced hanger, so I will not use much time figuring out the actual technique, although I will need time to work up to the proper weights, considering the soft tissue.

What angles were you successful with?

I would like to know about this “tension stretch” too.

We all have fluid lives … and shit happens … and plans change.

My suggestion is that you just go ahead and give it a try. THere really isn’t a downside. If after 2 months your privacy evaporates, you can adjust
