Cycling heat and cold for length gains.

Temperature cycling

I was reading this page on stretching muscles and it gave me an idea.
http://www.chir oweb.com/archiv … s/11/04/27.html

"Cooling the tissue is thought to allow the collagenous microstructure to restabilize more toward its new stretched length"

So would this be effective when stretching the tunica? Cycling cold and heat while under constant load seems like it might help "ice" in any length gains made from stretching.

However, I should mention that I have very little formal education in biology and much of the article I did not understand. Does anyone think cycling cold and hot to your unit while hanging would be a bad idea?

Wow, I just found a similar thread (Hobby’s thread). There were also a ton of other links cited in this thread:

Connective tissue- FIRST "THREAD OF THE YEAR"

It even quotes the same article I had posted. I initially found this article after doing some google searches on collagen stretching as Shiver suggested in this thread:

Attention Engineers and Free thinkers

Shiver also suggested that cyclic stretching forces may be beneficial but from reading the thread I just finished (Hobby’s thread), it seems that long lower intensity stretches may be better.

I haven’t really begun reading all the articles Hobby posted. However, I don’t know how much I will be able to glean since much of the medical stuff is over my head. Hobby seems to have researched this issue a lot. Maybe someone could try explaining it in layman’s terms? I also don’t understand how ai stretches are analyzed from the stretching theory I have begun reading.

From what I gathered the whole issue is still up in the air, but heat is strongly considered beneficial. How much theory is their behind this freezing notion?

Not only was the study not on human striated muscle vs. smooth muscle (like the firbromuscular bands of the penis), but it was done on freakin’ rabbits.
