Not many people know that Tesla was an avid PE’er. He actually invented the jelq and then invented the “ancient Arabic technique” story to protect his anonymity.

Roots checked the local fishing spots. Can get lead wire but is a much smaller diameter. I am not a fisherman but think the fly fishing here uses smaller lures and catch fish like European trout etc. I gather the heavier lead like the one you got is for catching pacific salmon etc.

You could try some of that depleted uranium the US Army put in tank shells used in Desert Storm. Not as radioactive but you might still get a bit of residual glow. Not sure how malleable it is though.

Getting back to your gold one you would have more than $30000 invested in the CC which might come handy if you needed the cash. The Platinum one even more so.

Had another brainwave that might get Xeno concerned last night. How about silicone tubing rather than heatshrink? Should avoid the need for the HTW.Should be able to get one that is a fairly snug fit. The only downside I can see is the CC would be a tad bulkier.

Or how about silicone over the heatshrink. I can see the silicone directly onto the lead to get roughed up or slide away(as the lead is slick).
It will easily stick to the heatshrink material.

Great rediscoveries here of this great invention! Will create one myself next month.

I get that silicone will grip the skin better, but why would this eliminate the need for the HTW? I wear the HTW to prevent pinching between the coils.

The issue for me is that suitable HTWs are just not available here in OZ. I managed to get a cheap chinese jersey one but alas the fabric only stretches lengthwise so it is impossible to fit. I have a stealth innerware which may work. It stretches width wise and I have successfully used it with golf weights but it has very limited length stretch capability.

The silicone provides a soft edge and may reduce the pinching between the coils with a bit of care. Also if the silicone tube is a bit longer than the lead I should be able to apply some silicone filler to avoid the hard epoxy end effect you mentioned in your CC pic thread.

Dickerschwantz’s idea of using the silicone tubing over the heatshrink is interesting. When I get my lead will do that as I have the heatshrink and some spare tubing and see how it goes.

Finally tracked down some of those Goody HTWs. They are unobtainable locally as are any suitable substitutes. Anyway Monty came to the rescue. He sells them at a fair price and is prepared to ship some to Australia for about $8. Thanks Monty.

silicone sleeve and other CC thoughts

Xeno, I hope you won’t mind me exploring variations on your CC theme.

Still waiting for my lead coil to arrive but had another thought about the silicone sleeve idea. I see why you went for heatshrink. Very thin and adds little bulk. The silicone tubing I have has an ID of 6 mm which is pretty ideal for 1/4” lead but has a wall thickness of 3 mm which means a CC made with say 1lb of lead will be about twice as long as one with heatshrink which reduces its ability to add weight. Most of us would be limited to one CC.

My other thought relates to the stretch ability of a CC. I see little benefit in using two CCs other than the extra weight as the ability of the lead to do the stretch would not increase with the second coil which would be a factor of the ductility of the lead. The extra weight can easily be loaded by using golf weights or even PE Weights at either end of the coil. The golf weight also addresses the coil end issue Rootsnatty raised as the coil end would be adjacent to a golf weight.

Will try it out when the gear arrives. Can anyone see any flaws in this?

Finally found some HTWs today that might suit while I am waiting for the Goody ones from Monty. They were Scunci and the only ones I could find that stretch in both directions. They are a bit too wide at 1 3/4” but were cheap at $2 ea and are made of a fairly thick fabric with a high and low pattern (not sure how to describe that) which should help them grip. While I keep pumping I should be able to use them with my extra flaccid girth.

Of course not.

What coil end issue?

That is what I was referring to. The golf weight should stop that.

Oh, thanks, missed that; never had the issue myself, but if I did, I’d take advantage of the malleability of lead by cutting the ends of the lead wire into wedge and/or hammering the ends into a taper so that the heatshrink wrapped ends would just taper smoothly up against the adjacent coil. That way, one wouldn’t need a golf weight, the bulkiness of which defeats one of the principle design objectives of the CC, low profile-ness; but that’s just me…whatever floats your boat.

I just make sure the top epoxied end (closest to my body) comes to rest on top of my shaft when I am done twisting it tight. Works like a charm.

The guys that are using the coil so far. Is it comfortable and any results with length thus far?

Yea that, and/or just use a full length HTW, which is like 15”, probably longer than the FSL of anyone interested in PE, with the slack HTW rolled up behind your CC…makes a nice cushion between you and the CC.

Don’t over complicate; this thing is all about simplification.
