Which angle to hang at

Been doing some hanging, but don’t know if I should concentrate on different angles or just stick to one for now. I have mostly been doing the OTS to target the tunica as recommended for my lot. Should I add anything to that or mix it up a bit? I have time for maybe 3-4 20 minutes reps. Thanks.

Try BTC regardless of your lot and see how the ligs feel afterwards. If it feels like they have been worked hard, keep doing it; you might as well take the easy gains first. Don’t forget to check your LOT once in a while, it can change.

I believe that most vets suggest staying with one angle for awhile. However, I am concerned that this allows some tissues to heal (strengthen) while other tissues are stretched. This creates stronger limiting factors. The fact that different angles can take different loads supports the idea that different tissues are being stressed at different angles. I also think that 1 or 2 sets at a particular angle stresses the tissues to an adequate level for growth. Consequently I vary the angle between each set in a workout. I do 5 - 6 sets total. The sequence I use varies but an example is SD, OTS, SD, OTS, SO, SO. Another is SD, SO, OTS, SD, SO, OTS. I do this while laying on a bed watching TV or reading.

Is it easy to do BTC while in a chair?

If you sit on the edge of the chair, yes. If you are really serious cut a hole in the chair; other people do!

So best to mix it around a bit I suppose? I see manual stretching usually recommends that so why not hanging?

That is a good point in support of multiple angles per workout. Another way of doing BTC is to lay on your side while in bed. I have a waterbed frame that sits on top of a smaller pedestal. I have replaced the waterbed mattress with a standard mattress. I use a long bootlace to attach the weights and it runs over the rounded wood edge of the bed frame. The weights hang freely because the pedestal is recessed in from the frame.

As far as what is best…who knows for sure. There is no statistical experimentation which supports one way over another. I believe that trying different things and being able to measure and record acurately will help you figure out the most efficient way to gain.
