Jabari,

>@ memento: You should have done your homework then — the article structure was mine. I’ll thank you to revert that.<

It’s hard to leave a structure whilst removing the content.

When you edited the page on the wiki, you must surely have seen the notice “You are also promising us that you wrote this yourself, or copied it from a public domain or similar free resource.” and yet you chose to ignore it.As you can see from Avocet’s response, there is a reason for not copying the work of others, whether it originates here or elsewhere.

The structure is in the history of the page. If you feel you can present it without using the words of Avocet (or anyone else), please feel free. Ideas are not copyrightable in any sense, so as long as the words are yours there is no problem.

Okay okay, let’s calm down guys. It’s deleted. Man, are you guys ever sensitive about the wiki — no wonder nobody touches it. Is the objection that it’s publicly viewable? Has there been any consideration in the past about making it (or a part of it) member-only?

Oh, and thanks for the words Iguana, Thunder.

It just has to be your own work, Jabari. It’s that simple. Wikipedia remove stuff that infringes copyright too. It shouldn’t be a big surprise.

There are many reasons people don’t touch the wiki. I think a lot of people don’t get how powerful a wiki actually is for imparting information and how shitty a forum is for the same purpose, there’s the fact that the markup is difficult for some, then there’s the license (GFDL) which allows commercial reuse. In the PE world there are a bunch of reasons why people wouldn’t want their work to be ripped to sell snake oil.

Obviously it isn't that simple, as my own contribution was also removed.

I wouldn’t necessarily say that a forum is “shitty” for imparting information, as forum discussions can bring new perspectives to bear on a given issue in a very interactive way. On a wiki, this could only be done by people actively and independantly trawling through an article’s history. I would tend to say that forums and wikis complement each other.

What about a members-only wiki? From what I can see, the vast majority of the ‘research’ done on PE (around here, at least) is completely self-contained at Thunder’s anyways.

Delayed response.

Check the history for anything you can salavage, to me it looked like there was very little to salvage. It’s never my intention to remove decent original content.

Exactly forums do discussions well, which aids the path to good information. Wikis present the information in the best way possible for consumption. Most people will read the front page and the last page of an old thread that gets bumped, missing out all the nice discussiony stuff in the middle (and often repeating points because of this). As for complementingm, I agree. This place would not have community without the forum.

I think we need to change the license on the wiki to make it more friendly. A CC license of some kind is likely. Making it members only would deny people who can’t join a route to info beyond the manual and vidcaps.
