Thinking of switching to infrared heat

So been thinking of switching to infrared light for warm ups, has anyone ever used a bulb lower than ~200 watts? I have a 60 watt lamp and was wondering if a <60 watt bulb will be efficient for warm ups.

If you search for infrared and IR you see quite a few discussions. Some of the recent threads have been about a 60 watt bulb which is according to those posts more than enough!

I got a 250 and it’s really too hot.

A 150 would probably be perfect, though still on the hot side.

I Just bought a 125w IR bulb from lowe’s and it works pretty good.

Oooooh lowes has a 125w?? Dangit lol I bought the 250w awhile back cause it’s the only one I saw =/

Yea, I wanted to get a 150w bulb. But they only got the 125 and 250. The 125w gives a nice soothing heat though.

I stopped by home depot today and bought a 60 watt lamp, ( I need one for reading purposes too)- and I asked a worker there for around a 60 watt infrared light bulb he pointed me to to the 250 watt heating bulb saying ” that’s a heating bulb not infrared but that’s all we have, don’t bother looking you won’t find one”

.After reading the “heating bulb” which said on the side infrared technology ,I continued looking at more bulbs, a second worker walks up to my gf asking her if she needs help, meanwhile the first worker points out to the second ” don’t fucking bother helping him, he’s looking for something that doesn’t exist”

how far away from your crotch should you be holding a 60W-er when heating. And for how long??

Guys. I think you should know that there is a difference between a heating lamp and an infra-red .lamp

The Infra-red is speciffically ‘tuned’ to IR rays that penetate the body, to warm in side, as well as the external heat.

A heating bulb is just that and would mainly warm the outside of tissue.

Not really. Go to your local pet store and ask them to order you a 75W infrared lightbulb made by Exo-Terra (check their site online too). Its approx 14$. Ive seen waayyy more expensive.

Are infared the ones with the red coating or the clear ones? I have noticed that the clear ones are much cheaper, around 4 dollars while the red ones are at least 9.

They’re usually black bulbs with red lighting wires in them.

The coating is not really an indicator of infrapred r not. Often just a shade to dim the light a bit.

I’ve seen philkps lamps both heating and Infr red that are coated. so it’s not a reliable guide.
